Default S&W 909 Manual Safety/Decocker

Anyone know where I can get a Safety/Decocker for a Model 909? I’ve purchased a couple of similar model units that fit okay but do not function properly- Thanks!!

The single-sided safety bodies are somewhat sought after and hard to find. Concerning the similar safety bodies you have purchased, the function issues are probably due more to the fitment of the sear release lever rather than the safety bodies themselves.

See this thread for info - So your decock doesn't work anymore...Now what?

Default Safety still not working properly

I tried three different Sear Release Levers - one of which was an untouched factory new one - and two different used 39 series Safety/Decocker units - and have experienced the same problem with all of the above:
1. Hammer down in Safe Mode - if I pull the trigger 5 to 6 times in a row the safety will ease off a little with each pull and gun will fire.
2. Safety lever in safe mode - insert magazine and release slide: Hammer will fall but safety lever moves to near off position instead of maintaining safe mode.
Any ideas???

Without seeing your gun and parts it is difficult to say, but early model 39 safeties did not use a detent plunger and spring on the left side at about the 4:00 position, while later units did.

That could allow the safety lever to move.

Also, a brand new sear release lever should make it almost impossible to install the slide.

If you are near St. Louis, MO., I would be glad to help.

John

Thanks you John! Wish I lived closer but am in TX. I bought the Sear Release Lever from Numrich and maybe it wasn’t as advertised?? I feel much better about the safety movement. It takes about ten pulls to get the safety all the way off - Thank you again for your very helpful response. God Bless and stay safe and healthy!

You're welcome.

Only wish I could have been of more help.

Make sure you have the correct (stiff) spring installed in the detent plunger for the left side of the safety body.

I guess I was just incredibly lucky. I had a similar problem with my 639, but when, at the suggestion of JohnHL, I changed the sear lever to one from the parts kit id’ bought via Gun Broker, my problem went away. I’m surprised if you tried three different ones that the problem remained.

Just found the plastic Disconnector has had the right side projection carved off???? Not sure why that would be done unless someone was trying to eliminate the mag safety?? Anyway I ordered a new stainless one - hope this eliminates the problem.
