Check the yellow pages for a fastner (bolt and screw) supplier and tell them what you want and the length and t.p.i. ie 8-36 or what it is and see if they can get them in either torx or shcs call because I bet they wont have them in stock.

I would think that allen head screws would stand above the surface because of the depth of engagement needed by the inefficient allen design. Torx can get by with a more shallow engagement. But aren't these screws bevel headed?

I bought a set for an L frame several years ago and they look right smart. Same profile as the factory screws. Trouble is, I can't find them anymore.

This is just a bad idea on so many levels. . . .

Good luck on your search, a general fastener place will, most likely, not have a listing or source for a gun screw/thread. They're more common to instrumentation then fastening things.

I've asked at my normal, get it all, nut and bolt place. And they generally don't stock, nor have access to, anything that small with super fine thread.

You may be able to replace 2 side plate screws though I am not sure that shape of the heads will be same. Crane screw has spring loaded tip needed to secure crane in place.

I think the head style that you want for this application is a button head allen. They have a nice rounded head, but finding one in the threads you need may be difficult. A good machine screw supplier is Manhatton Supply Company. mscdirect.com.

I just did a quick search on the mscdirect.com site and they listed 6 different lengths in a button head 8x36 threads, black oxide. Problem is that you have to buy a 100 and they are probably too long for your application.

Allen heads would eliminate the problem of buggered screw slots. I can see it from a purely practical point of view even though the aesthetics might suffer a little.

I know that Power Custom USED TO offer the Allen-Head Sideplate Screws. Check with Power, Brownell's and Midway USA. Hope this helps. Paulie686.
