My son in law has a 6 inch 585 that has two threaded holes in the bottom of the full length under lug. He said it was a competition gun. Would they be there for a counterweight or something?
For a competition gun I'd guess they were for weights also - as Protocall said above. That said, I can't see why one would need weights on an already full and heavy revolver - but to each their own.
