The trigger width dimensions are "nominal" and do vary. It's not after market. It's the J frame standard trigger introduced in 1986, and you're right, it's not yet an MIM unless it has a hollow back (see below):
1984-89 – optional .400” Grooved/.335” grooved & smooth J frame triggers, and the standard and optional .500”/.400” K, L & N frame grooved and smooth target triggers were no longer offered.
1986 - New smooth forged combat trigger became standard: .312” J, .312 - .320” K, L & N, including MIM triggers, and in 2003 MIM .340” X frame trigger.
1997-8 – MIM hammer, frame mounted firing pin, and hollow back MIM smooth trigger .312” J, .312-.320” K, L & N, and in 2003, .340” X frame all introduced (date and dash number vary by model).
