Default Trying to stick a 17?dash? Cylinder Into a 48-3 frame

Howdy,

If your following my other thread about a model 48-3 my FIL gifted me...

I got ahold of a model 17 .22lr cylinder that is the exact length of my 48-3 cylinder only I think the gas ring is in the wrong spot...

So what's next? A new crane? Cylinder won't work?

You may be able to dress down the gas ring a bit. Will the cylinder fit in the allotted space without the yoke? ( the cylinder fully assembled with the center pin, center pin spring, extractor spring, spring collar and extractor rod)

I'd guess the gas ring is larger in diameter than is allowed by the barrel extention Two choices if that is the case. File down the underside of the barrel or reduce the size of the gas ring. regardless of which you choose you will need a drop or three of cold blue to dress up the bare steel. Love using q-tips for this part of the project.

I have a 48-4 with the gas ring on the yoke as you describe. It also has a factory fitted LR cylinder. The LR cylinder does not have a gas ring and uses the one on the yoke. I read where this arrangement was only used for about a year around 1977. I think that if you removed the gas ring from your LR cylinder it would work fine.
