Herrett Grip Screw Short?
Simple problem. The grip screw that came with is just under 1” long, about 1/8” to short. It just touches the threads, but no engagement. I bought another screw on eBay, it’s about 1/4” to long, sticks out.
Besides this the I’m not sure if the threads are correct for either screw, a little slipping, especially the longer screw. I’d rather not bugger up with ‘thread locker’ or similar, for times when it has to come out.
Would it be hard to press a new threaded ‘collar’ inside? Is there an easy way to source a proper screw about 1” long? Any other ideas?
It’s lower priority, but looking for a solution.

Make sure the current escutcheons are fully seated. Replacing escutcheons is risky and not all escutcheons are the same size. You can damage grips getting the old ones out. It’s safest to just find a correct size screw.
Most hardware stores have an assortment of fasteners in pull-out trays. I like brass round head machine screws for grips and you can take the grip with you into the store and try various sizes.

I had the same issue in the past. Called Herrett’s and they sent me 3 or 4 screws N/C.

They recently me a replacement screw upon my request. I asked for the price, and they replied there would be no charge, and they mailed it quickly. I own several sets of stocks from them. Excellent quality and perfect fit. They know the importance of great customer service.

Called Herrett a handful of times, business hours in Idaho. Never an answer, left message, no callback.
What’s the next source for the correct screw?

Cut the long one down and file a taper on the end and it will work. You can shorten them, you just can't stretch them.

I have read about cutting one, not sure I have a ‘clean’ way to do it. The one site said leave a nut inside the cut to smooth out the threads. I may be out tomorrow, I’ll see if the hardware store offerers options.

Hey, just an update. It took a while, but Herrett called me back. They said they would send a screw. I’d rather just get this fixed, the grips themselves fit & look just fine.
I also have a Midway order inbound, ordered a ‘fix kit’ in the mix. It’s a screw & the two ‘bushings’. I think with all that, I can get it fixed.
A final update, 2 screws came, one fit perfectly. I always liked the grips, just needed a screw to hold them in place. I’m all set, thanks Herrett.
