DuraCoat before & after
So far I am very happy with this DuraCoat finish. I applied it to a 342PD (scandium & titanium) that got pretty beat up over 18 years of EDC.

Looks like it turned out very well. Hard to beat a J-frame, even in this day and age.

Looks better than it did, but long term durability is usually the issue with coatings, especially on revolvers. I have GunKoted a couple of 1911's and a couple of rifles, it has held up very well on those firearms.

Dura-coat would certainly not be my first choice of finishes, but in a scenario that it had to be done at home (and inexpensively) I would say it's a good choice. It is reported to be relatively durable as long as it is applied properly but it always reminds me of a Crossman Pellet Gun - lol.

From what I've read it will continue to harden over time so the plan is to let it cure in the safe for several months, no need to hurry it.

I've heard it not nearly as long wearing as ceracoat and some other finishes, but I'm sure proper application would make a big difference. It's looks nice.

My gunsmith did the Duracoat on my Para Ordnance. He was very specific to me in allowing the gun to sit curing for a month before using it. So as others have noted, proper application is the key to any coating.

I scrubbed it with a scotch pad and 600 grit sandpaper, then acetone and wiped it down good with a dry cloth.
As far as Cerakote goes, that was my first choice until I found out it was $300......DuraCoat was $50 and I have lots of time.

What do you do with 1/2 can of leftover DuraCoat?
I hate to waste anything so my crescent wrenches got freshened up too.

Bravo if it looks half as good in person as the pictures you have succeeded!
Looks outstanding
I live refinishing guns from time to time but I have never done the Duracoat.
Let us know how well it holds up in the future please.

This 39-2 gun was an unmitigated disaster when I got it from my idiot brother. He actually had JB bonded a metal strip on the bottom of the forward frame so he could zip tie a flashlight! Never seen anything like it. I too decided on Duracoat for the final finish doing all the work myself. Also the 39-2 was quite a challenge in disassembly/assembly. In the end I was able to save the gun and it looks so much better and functions perfectly. As mentioned I also put the gun to the side for a month before test shooting it. It is now going on 3 years, all is well with the finish. Had to use a dremel to clean up the frame area, glass beaded the frame, cold blued small parts, and then applied Duracoat.

Looks great Mike0251! I'm not sure if you classify your brother's work as MacGuvyer- esque, or Bubba-ish, but if that's all he had, I like he's ingenuity.
Fantastic work by your own right, resurrecting a classic!

Engine block heater but no power?
I know..strange place to ask this question but we have a lot of knowledge around here so I'd like to tap into it, if the mods permit it.
I have a tractor with snowblower that I need in the winter to be able to get out of here but when the temp is low I need to plug an engine block heater in for 30-60 minutes before cranking it up.
When the power goes off (wires down, storms, etc) I'm out of luck.
I have a battery jump start unit and wondering if instead of getting max power in a burst if I could somehow use it for low power over longer periods?
I may never need to use it like this or I may need it tomorrow, but when the time comes, I won't be able to ask.
The specifics:
Kat's 1153 Engine Block Heater 200w
DPPOWER DPS50 Battery Jump Starter
Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks

Would it be correct to say the block heater runs on 120 volts AC, and the battery starter supplies 12 volts DC? If so, I think you would need an inverter. The cheapest one I see on Harbor Freight is about $50, and I'm not sure it would be compatible. Might make more sense just to plug in the block heater whenever indicated by the weather forecast, and hope the block retains heat long enough to facilitate starting.

Yes, I believe that's the case.
I wondered where this post went....it doesn't actually belong here, but then again, it probably doesn't even belong on this forum.
Thanks for the reply though.
