I notice Kuhnhausen has little tools he uses in his book to measure stop cuts in the cylinder and the window for the stop and hand in the frame. Anyone know their proper name? I assume Brownells has them?

They are specialized feeler gauges made with a little nub that fits within the correct size ranges for the stop slots, hand window and stop window

Hmmm, I have never seen the gauges you speak of for sale anywhere. Not to say they don't exist, but I can't help you locate any. If this is the kind of thing you would be doing often, I suggest making them yourself or have someone who has some basic machining skills make them for you.

I have in the past done this type of job but I have simply used a pair or Starrett Calipers that lock on the setting you want. I don't have to do this very often and so I have never been interested in gauges.

As far as the Cylinder Bolt Window, I have simply adjusted the part itself to fit and I have never messed with the window's dimensions. About the only thing I have ever done to a window opening is remove any burr that was sharp - but I never changed the opening's dimensions.

When it comes to fitting pieces, you always want to machine a replaceable piece and not the Revolver's Frame (if at all possible). You can always get another part if you screw it up but you can't put metal back onto the Frame - at least I can't. - LOL

My advice would be to get and assortment of pre measured cylinder stops including oversize. And use them as gauges and replacements when needed.

You can also use gage pins for that, and many other measurements.

They just looked handy and I was willing to spring for a set if they were something one could buy. I don't do this often, but they seemed useful for checkouts if one was buying to ensure what you got was serviceable w/o a lot of subsequent investment.

Go to a Fastenal store. Get some 1/8'' drill rod. Cut into short sections file ends to different thickness measuring with good calibers. Heat last 1" red hot and bend at about 90, dunk in oil while red. You now have hardened gauges.
