I just picked up a very nice Model 15-3 with nickel finish. I know not to use any ammonia based cleaners on it. There are a few pin-sized areas on the muzzle crown where the nickel has flecked off. Also a couple of areas on the ejector rod.
Is there a way to stop future flecking of the nickel finish? The finish on the rest of the revolver is very good.

I'd say no sbrasives and you can seal it with typical car wax or similar product. I don't know how to stop flaking, it is likely cause by something getting under the plating and loosening the bond there.
I'd definitely wax or oil regularly to protect the exposed areas. Any rust that developes will migrate and lift the existing plating off, and will look a whole lot worse.
