Default A tale of Tyler T

Several months ago I printed the order form, filled it out, and sent it off with a check for a couple Tyler T grips. I hadn't heard a word, and was reading the posts about them not answering the phone or emails, people not getting their orders, and speculation they had shut down.

So Friday, I decided I was never going to see them, and placed an order for a couple of BK grips online.

Well, the next day I went to the mailbox, and there they were. The Tyler T grips finally came. Talk about poor timing. I suppose better late than never. I guess now I can do a Tyler vs BK comparison to see which ones I prefer.

Anyway, thought I would give hope to those still waiting for their order.

I do not wish any difficulties on anyone trying to make a buck on their own. So far as comparisons go, my bet is you'll never read a post that starts with "Several months ago" I sent an order to BK grips ......

Tyler’s owner runs the company terribly - putting it mildly!!! They have been doing so since the old man passed many years ago - so nothing new there. It’s quite frustrating to deal with them and even more so to have no communication at all. All that said, eventually the Tyler-T shows up and I can’t say I know of anyone who actually never got their order.

When I used to go to gun shows frequently, I’d sometimes find venders selling many of the Tyler’s brand new in the box and they carried just about all the different models and configurations of colors. I bought a lifetime supply of what I needed and now just go to my parts box and grab one when needed. They do still show up on eBay, at LGS’s, gun shows, etc. from time to time and occasionally you can still find some new in their vintage boxes.

While I have heard nothing negative and nothing but praises about BK grips, I personally prefer the cast aluminum Tyler’s over the BK’s plastic. I only wish BK’s were made like Tyler’s then it would be a “no brainer”.

Well OP, if you’ve got a Tyler and a BK to compare side by side, you have an opportunity many of us won’t have! I would suggest that you take advantage of it, and if you decide you prefer the BK, you can always put your as-new Tyler’s up for sale and recoup the cost of both adaptors and a profit besides. You can probably get most of your cost for the BKs back if you go that way. Sounds like a win-win after your long wait.

Might be a lesson learned not to pass up items when they are readily available and reasonably priced. Just posted a WTB for a discontinued vintage leather item. If the items still exist today good chance it's of poorer quality/materials made in China or Mexico. Living in a plastic world.

Several years ago I was at a gun show in Richmond, VA. A well known dealer who traveled the nation selling gun parts and magazines showed up with a tray of a dozen or more Tyler T-grips in the old white boxes with plain black graphics. IIRC, he said he had gotten them on some sort of close out deal and was selling them for $10-15 each. They were all for S&W K frames and only in black but maybe RB and SB if memory serves, but even then it was a screaming deal. With my usual forethought and wisdom, I bought one and walked away... needless to say, this was a one time event.

I have done several comparisons of the various grip adapters including some not in this image. Each serves a purpose. I use them all on N frames regardless of what they are purported to go on. I do have a couple of I, J, and K frames with adapters but I shoot N frames.

In the above image you will see grip adapters from Tyler, Mershon, Pachmayr, and BK. I also have grip adapters from S&W but no spares of that brand unless you are interested in this one.

Just noticed this update to the Tyler website...it's a nice development but it doesn't matter unless production speeds up:

I suppose that in the real world, the T-Grip business is shrinking because many are switching over to plastic guns. I doubt Tyler wants to spend more money on new equipment, more staff and a larger facility to cater to a shrinking market.

Not making excuses for him - waiting a year is despicable but I can't help thinking that's whats is going through his mind.

Good news! Now when people start disputing their charges after not getting their product or even a return call or email maybe they’ll change their ways.

So they are making it easier to order a product for which they already can not keep up with demand for. Sounds logical?????? I’ve been waiting since April for a basic satin black K frame T Grip. I gotta assume it’s one of the most popular models. Yet nothing. They say to text them but they don’t respond to that either. I think a lot of people would be ok with the wait if there was some kind of communication. The NOT KNOWING is the frustrating part.

Agreed!
It's Tyler's lack of communication that is most frustrating. Is it that Tyler thinks that little of its customers, that we don't even warrant an acknowledgement of an inquiry? Save all the "they can either answer inquiries or make product" comments; it's a horrible business model.
Yet, in spite of this, they continue to remain in business.

I feel that most customers would appreciate an honest estimation of product lead times and then wait patiently.

It just goes to show that when you have a unique product to sell, people (me included) will get in line no matter how poorly they are treated.

I wonder how much more successful they would be if they had a good business model?

I’ve been waiting since January or February for a three or four adapter order. Don’t recall off hand what I ordered it’s been so long.

I hope they come in soon!

Think I’ll order some. Never used them, but I’d hate to be the only one without a story to tell.

I don’t get what the big deal is. Everyone on this site knows Tyler T is slow, and non responsive to replies. Has anyone not received their order. They delivered 4 sets to Kings Pawn in Del City for me to pick up knowing I was going to be in OKC. Patience is a virtue.

It appears folks would rather believe a website than take the word of forum members. There are how many threads devoted to how slow this company is. At least two thirds of the responses further support the FACT that slow delivery is where it is at. I guess folks want to believe that they are special and Tyler will supply them before they fulfill other orders.

Or, they are too cheap to buy second hand and would rather complain, knowing full well how backordered the company is.

About 10 years ago, I ordered a Tyler T for my mod. 66 RB snubby, waited months, and when it arrived, it didn't mate properly, leaving a large, noticable gap between the trigger guard and frame. I returned it certified mail, with a note explaining the defect, asking them to replace it. Never heard back from them, though I sent followup e-mails. Never received a replacement or refund.

After giving up ever getting the replacement from them, I found one online that fit.
More recently, I bought a boxed Tyler T for my J frame that was advertised in the Classified section on this site. I'm no longer in the market for Tyler T products, but in case I need another adapter, I'll find one online from a private seller who won't rip me off, as Tyler T did.

Surprise, surprise… a package from Tyler arrived today with the three T-Grips I ordered in January or early February.

The do look good. I’ll have to see how they fit this weekend.

I mailed off an order knowing it was iffy. I never did receive anything. Yes, I knew the rail, but it’s still very disappointing.

Not sure how long ago you ordered but be patient.

I just got mine today and it has been a while since ordering.

I have ordered several times. Mail it and forget about it. Trust the process, or lack thereof, and have never been disappointed.

This order was for polished stainless and they look great. Worth the wait and I didn't need to call or text, post bad things here, file a complaint with the Post Office or the OK Attorney General.

Just had to wait, as every thread here tells ya.
