Ace Hardware Rocks/ Gunsmith screws
My local hardware store DOES have gunsmith screws!!! If one fools around with pre WWII smith & Wesson revolvers, basically anything from 1852 to the Registered Magnum, which screws are good to have on hand? Obviously, hexagonal screws aren’t applicable.

You are a lucky duck to have Ace Hardware stock gunscrews. All hardware retailers in my neighborhood, (Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc.) use the same stocking distributor with no gun screws. I guess I live too close to urban unrest. None of the WalMarts near me stocks arms or ammunition.

Alliance Home Improvement Center
In Arizona not only ACE but Alliance Home Improvement Center sells both gunsmith screws, but also wire gauge drills. Way better prices than Brownell's or Midways.

I have a couple ACE hardware's in my area, but none stock gun screws. The only way to get a 4-40 screw around here is to order it.

I will have to check my ACE hardware next time. I think I would pass out if found "on the shelf" gun screws / hardware locally available! Nice find. Thanks for sharing the info!

Those gun screw kits have a small plate they sell in them with threads for the various screw sizes. All marked as to size and pitch. Very handy to have. Not only to check threads but if a screw is to long you can thread it tight in the plate to hold it steady while you use a small grinder or file to shorten it. Also some stores have stainless ones as well as blue.

Brownell's also has screw blanks that you can thread to the pitch you want and cut to the length you want.

I asked my Ace to stock one of those boxes they didn't have, showed up in 2 weeks. Maybe ask if they don't have them. Give them the part number on the boxes shown above.

My store has them, too.
One thing I like about where I live - everything is close by. My doctor, dentist, surgeon, all the medical testing, everything is within minutes. I might have to drive 1/2 hour to an hour to go hunting or shooting, but all the day-to-day stuff is almost within walking distance.

My local ACE hardware recently expanded the nuts and bolts section and carried almost everything. Then even more recently they shut the doors. Hated to see that happen

For smiths the side plate screws and a couple of rear sight screw. Those have 2 different types of heads BTW. Several 8-32 screws for main springs.
I don't think the 4th and 5th screw would be found in such a selection as their heads are a bit different. Scope mount screws vary from brand to brand and most rifle screws are larger than those in the section at Ace

ACE IS THE PLACE FOR KEYS TOO!!!
I went to Home Depot last week and had 8 (Aluminum) keys made for two different locks. Came home, only two worked and it required giggling to get them to work.
The next day (after carrying on like a two year old) I went to Ace Hardware where I had 8 new (Solid Brass) keys made by the manual key cutting machine. Came home - they ALL worked perfectly!
Two days later I brought the 8 bad keys back to H-D and got a refund. BTW the H-D keys were cut on one of those robotic machines but done by the H-D staff. The kicker here is not only did the Ace keys work perfectly, they were 50 cents less than the cheap aluminum H-D keys!
Ace also is a Benjamin Moore paint store specialist - the colors always match!

I sell hardware to independent hardware stores for a living. Any hardware store who sells Hillman Fasteners can special order these or stock them if they choose. I have independent Hardware stores selling these.
