Hello all, I've had this 686 for some time. And it's an unbelievably great revolver to shoot.
As the gunsmith who did the work has past away, I can't ask where I can find another barrel weight like this one. As I would like to put one on another 686+ 6".
My question is,does anyone know where I can find one?
Thanks

Interesting, I haven't seen one of those barrel weights before.
I did the exact same mod to the front sight on my defense gun 686 to make the front edge vertical (and easier to see).
Not sure I would put an overtravel stop on the trigger of s defense gun, but maybe it's OK.

Looks like it could be a modified Jarvis underlug. Haven't been made for a while.

I use this 686 for indoor bulls eye and bowling pin matches. That is what the I use the over travel stop. This baby is way to heavy to carry.

My mistake. I guess I figured the bobbed hammer was to prevent draw snag on clothing.

Wichita also made some, I believe you will see 6" versions often, with the occasional 4" (?).
It's possible that the one pictured above started as a Wichita and was reshaped/contoured by the gunsmith (?) Maybe not, it looks like it is secured to the barrel differently than the Wichita, which in the case of the one below has a screw hole in the front that attaches to the underlug.
Here's one for a 5" M686 barrel, with the barrel

If you have a "friendly" machinist shop nearby, take your 686+ and your underlug to him and ask him to make you one to hit the 6".

SmithNut I think you are right about the weight on my revolver. It does look like it was cut down and reshaped. as you can see from the tool marks.
I do like the look of Wichita weight. Are they available? If so where.
Thanks for your help, Dan

SCORE makes barrel weight for 686 629 6 inch for your PPC revolver
Easyer to put on or remove! Extreme finish! Me and a friend here in sweden have just started produktion on a small hobby basis to give ppc shooters and hunters a easy handled produkt. No drilling needed
and a nice alternative instead of changing the barrel to increase weight.
Works perfekt! A lot of PPC shooters in sweden use this insted of bying expensive barrels.
Fits common competition holsters like Sickinger Speed machine and others.
Most people traying to make simular forgets that it has to fit the holster also!
