I purchased this gun in the Grey/SS version new and have never shot it. In researching the gun, I find several problems associated with the gun and I am wondering what needs to be done to mine to make it a safe & reliable weapon for my family to use?

The cheapest and most reliable way is to trade it for the current VE model (prefer the 9mm). That's what I did after having S&W work on it, even paying $50 to get the "improved trigger group." It never was consistent.
In my opinion, it's really not worth fooling with.....sorry.
