Could a 4.125" MP .40 be fitted w/MP .357 Sig barrel that's stretched another 1.5-2.5" w/same slide and still be sufficiently supported?

As I understand the business end of the barrel is supported by the slide and I wondered how far the barrel could go past the end of the slide and function properly.

The 357 would be a spare barrel for plinking...

I've seen Glocks that have the barrel hanging out the end an inch. I would think the problem would be finding a barrel that length (1.5-2.5).

I've seen the longer threaded and ported barrels and wondered how far you could go.
I notice folks using the 357 Sig barrels on the MP 40 as an alternative to buying a whole pistol.

My guess is you should have adequate support as suppressors work well on several semi-autos using the Browning tilt barrel locking system.

But does 2.5" of steel weigh more or less than an alloy can?

I could venture to guess, but it would be mere speculation because I don't much about suppressors, their construction or the materials...
