I also like Metaloy. Won a gift certificate for Metaloy services in a shooting match. Had the frame of my well worn Series 70 45 done. That was in about 1982. Still looks great. Gun was used in many matches up until 1995 or so. Have carried it in all sorts of climates and conditions. Wouldn't hesitate to have them do another one for me.
The wrench in the works is, I'm an apprentice of sorts to a metal restorer, mostly decorative chrome refinishing and zinc diecast restoration. He does'nt do his own plating though, and I hate to give my new 1911 project to a plater that is'nt experianced with handguns.
So, my gun is prepped for plating, it only needs degreased, racked, and the juice turned on.
I find it hard to spend 300$ on labor when the work is already done.
I've sent three places emails and Fords is giving me the best price break.
