I have a new-to-me CS9. To to release the slide seems to take a lot of thumb strength. What needs to be done so that you don't need go-rilla thumbs? Forgot to add,I am doing this with an empty mag inserted. Does having a loaded mag make a difference? Thanks in advance.

The easiest way is just grasp the slide with the off-side hand, pull back and release. Not only does this save wear on the thumb, but not very many years ago was taught as the correct way to drop the slide.

FYI, and contrary to un-informed current use, the part you refer to is the slide STOP. Its primary function is to hold the slide open. When disengeged it releases the slide, but thyat is really incidental to its primary operation.

Thanks for the info. In the future I will try and use the correct name for the part in question.

I too find that on some pistols it's easier for the off hand to either move the slide release down or to pull back & release the slide back into battery..
There's a small spring loaded detent in the end of the Slide Stop that you might try oiling up when you have the pistol apart next time & push in & out on it a few times to draw some oil into it, Might help some..
Ed Brown used to make an extended slide stop for some of the 3rd Generation S&WS & would think that one for a 3913 could be used on the CS9..Good Luck finding one though.. Saw one for a 45XX/10XX this weekend still in the package for $15..
