Noticed a strange "binding" in my 642 last night. took the sideplate off this morning and the hammer stud had pulled away from the frame. Have already called s&w, they are sending a label, etc....
i'm hoping it can be fixed, as this 642 is one of the recent runs with no lock.
Anyone out there heard of this happening before, and any idea if it is as simple as reattaching a stud to the aluminum?
have had many airweights and other smiths and never seen this before.
thanks
Derek

They'll probably replace the frame. I had a problem with the finish on my 642 and instead of refinishing it, they replaced the frame.

If so I hope it can be replaced with a non-lock frame...

Just wanted to bring everyone up to date on the broken hammer stud-so many times people post complaints but never when their problems get resolved.
Got a call from a tech rep at smith about 2 weeks after sending in the weapon-they stated that they were concerned about trying to replace the broken stud (were afraid of weakening the aluminum frame), so they replaced the entire frame (issued a new serial number)-i was concerned that they would replace it with a IL frame (mine had no IL) but they did not. I requested while it was there to have an "action job" on it by the performance center-they did but would not let me pay for it. got it back today. It's nice to see a company stand behind their product-makes me want to purchase more of their products.
cheers
Derek

That's a completely satisfactory outcome in my book. Congratulations, and thanks for reporting back.
