I just brought home a 66-3 and as it was very oily decided to remove the sideplate to clean it up. Unfortunatley I have really messed up. At first the entire mechanism was locked up. I got things flowing again but now the cylinder will not advance unless it is pointed barrel down. Is there a torsion spring on the hand? I never saw,heard, or felt anything fly off. Is there a good schematic I can follow to make sure all the parts are there?

There is definitely a spring to hold tension on the hand. It's possible it didn't fly away but slipped off the pin it puts pressure against. Take it out and look at it.

Thanks, that schematic seems to be the only thing available online. The spring is definitely MIA. I'm off to visit my local armorer to give this a check.

Here's a reverse picture of a MIM trigger, with the hand/spring in place. (Courtesy of 500MagnumNut) It's not identical to the forged hammer on the old Model 66's, but the hand/spring assembly goes together the same) You can see how the torsion spring hooks over the pin on the hand.. Also, I think I have a link to a clearer schematic for ya.. (I'll have to see if I can dig it up) The one with the watermark on it was kinda hard to read. Good Luck gettin her fixed up!

A 66-3 should have a forged trigger with the trigger lever and hand spring pinned in place. You should just need to hook the hand spring over the hand pin. Like what's pictured in the photo of the mim trigger. With the older trigger the parts are trapped (pinned) and and don't fly off to never-never land like the mim trigger.

Well, perhaps I bought the gun without doing a complete enough inspection. I do remember checking the trigger pull, timing, and lockup but it all in a down-pointed position.

Anyway, my local smith put a new spring in, took her to the range today and she shoots great. Adjusted the sight a bit to the right and they're all printing together. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
