You are correct to never oil a striker or firing pin. I clean them by using acetone spray cleaner shooting it straight into the firing pin hole in the breech face. Take the slide off the frame. Hose it until it runs out. Wear eye protection.

Will the acetone hurt the plastic slide end cap? I'll be careful not to get it doused. Thanks Bounty Hunter

I use poly safe spray cleaner on my sigma. I hold the sriker back some and spray down the tunnel that the striker is in, also there is a hole in the underside of slide the goes onto the tunnel that i spray.

Acetone can damage some plastics, but I have yet to see a reputable gun maker use plastic which is not acetone safe. The famous Gunscrubber cleaner is acetone. It does strip paint so be careful near sights.
