I was looking at a used 629 the other day, really want it..The bolt slots(forgive me if this isn't the correct term) in the cylinder look to be peened and have burs on the edge. Is this a reason to walk away? Could a trip to the factory make it right? Any opinions will be appreciated.

If you shoot (or dry fire which is more likely on a 629) a stainless steel S&W revolver DA very much, the cylinder stop slots will get peened. It's a fact of life. I wouldn't worry about it.

I shoot one stainless gun a lot and watch the stop notches. When they start to peen, I take a small ball peen hammer and peen them back. Seems to work. It is an unfluted cylinder.

Unfortunately the extra weight of the unfluted cylinder actually makes the peening happen sooner. The best "cure" is one of S&W's titanium cylinders.

Thanks for the quick response. I went back today to get it and it had been sold.
