Have a M29 10 5/8" and want to change the rear open sight to a previously installed scope mount. I have not done this before, as I bought this gun used with the open sights on it. I thought I'd ask before I messed something up without really knowing what I'm getting into. The scope mount is all set to go all I need to do is get the origonal one off without doing any damage. TIA

To remove the rear sight you only need to remove the small screw holding it in the frame, then slide the site off towards the rear. You nay have to turn the elevation screw up a turn or two if it is down snug. The base of the rear sight elevation stud fits in a slot milled in the top of the revolver.

When I try to remove the front screw it doesn't come out, does turn but only lifts the front section of the sight off the top strap, if loostened. As to the rear section does it need to be in the raised or lowered position relative to the frame notch? Does the sight need a bit of nudging or should it come off relativly easy. Sorry for all the seamingly silly questions but don't want to damage anything by blundering through this. Appreciate you patience and help.

you may have to depress the raised front area to remove the tiny screw all the way.

the rear sight assembly should slide backwards away from the receiver.

if the rear sight is bottomed out, it may be binding on the receiver. just turn the elevation screw to clear.

if it still wont move, it may be a tight fit and a non marring plastic or wooden punch and tap the front of the rear sight...rearward.

OK, got it. When I was removing the front screw it looked like the screw was raising the top section but the front part has a curve to it and was actually following the screw up as it was loostened. Went a bit further with the screw and it came right out. The scope mounts are now on and waiting for the scope to arrive.
