Well folks, here's my PPC (I think?) 10-7. I actually picked this up from the used gun room at Cabela's. I didn't quite get the screaming deal some of you guys did but I feel like I did okay.

I have no idea who built it or what year it's from. I found out after I purchased it that it came in as part of an estate sale and (supposedly) it won two state championships in CA. Who knows.

Here's what I know:
- Bull barrel of some sort
- Aristocrat underlug
- Aristocrat sight rail
- Aristocrat (I think) ejector collar
- Action job: trigger pull is about 7.10 DA and 3.5 SA and there's a soft-tipped stop screw in the trigger.
- It's more gun than I can handle, lol
- It looks like it was bead-blasted?

I actually picked this guy up with the intent of using it in ICORE. It's a little heavy for that purpose but I love shooting guns with a bit of history and soul. I've made a few teaks to make it run-n-gun friendly so I'll post new pics soon.

Here's what I'd like to know: (if anyone can help)
- Any guess at the vintage? Serial is 6D44970
- Think it was done by a known PPC smith or was it a garage gun? It's well-sorted either way, I'm just curious.
- How the hell do they get the action this light? There's definitely a custom rebound spring, but the mainspring is even lighter than a Wolffe Type 2 Power Rib when using the same strain screw.
- There's a sharp little pokey bit that sticks out of the front of the crane. Is that added to interact with the underlug somehow? I don't remember seeing it on other Smiths.

Southerngunner- That looks like one I built a long time ago. Not absolutely sure. If so, it has a 1 in 10 Douglas xx premium barrel.

Had this .32 PPC barrel for over a year and sat on it. Finally gave the gun to Andy Horvath in April and had to wait for him to find some Weigand interchangeable from sight bases. They are discontinued but will be made by Bowen. Had the bbl cut to 5" and he slab sided the bbl also. Can change front sights as needed. Used a model 15 frame and used the adjustable sights instead of a rib. Will shoot tomorrow. Put on a set of Keith Brown grips on it.

The other is a 25-2 cut to 3 1/2" with a Weigand front sight base also. Not sure yet if I want it blued or hard chromed.

Both are stamped Horvath Custom and the caliber on the other side. I'll shoot this tomorrow also. Larry

New Years bump. I picked this up in a trade on Friday. Contacting Wichita, they no longer make the Aristocrat sight, unfortunately. (The new owner is only interested in making their pistol/rifle designs).

I'm looking at grip options now as the Pachmyrs are quite thin for my tastes.

Some of you might have seen this one but I thought I would share it again!

The gun has a BO-MAR rib and a 4 inch barrel instead of the typical 6 inch barrel. It is also is chambered in .357 magnum instead of .38 spl. The action is smooth but not too light and very crisp. I added the Farrant stocks I had in the woodpile waiting for the right gun.

Well, took the Schneider to Andy Horvath to cut the barrel and leave the name 'Schneider custom" on it. Ended up at 5". Took the rib off and put a Weigand interchangeable front sight base on it. Since it started as a model 15, I put original rear sights back on it. It lightened the gun some for shooting the double action league coming up in April thru May. The last picture is the gun before Andy had it. Larry

This 15-3 is from my great uncle. He was a cop in Indiana. It shoots great and I like having a piece of family history.

This is one of my old PPC guns from the "days dinosaurs roamed the earth"....mid 70's. On a model 10 frame...... Bo-mar rib, 1" round barrel with 10 l&g that was made by Apex I believe. (not sure about the barrel manuf) An Aristocrat counterweight was added later. The one I used in most of the matches had a spurless hammer and a bumpered trigger stop. (da only)
Ended up adding the plating because of the problem with oxidation.

I built several of these on various S&W frames for our officers who shot on the various pistol teams in the area.....and a few for locals.

I acquired this 10-5 PPC gun last week. No name, no hint of who built it. Seems there is a lot of them out there like that. The guy however did say he was told it was built by a deceased gunsmith in Brunswick, GA. What I liked most about it is it seems to be like new, shot almost none. With Bomar rib, ejector rod lock up and seems to be well built with a slick action. As best I can tell it has either a 10 or a 12 twist barrel. It shoots lights out. I'm pleased.

Finally found a Bomar winged cover up and a model 10 with a 4 heavy bbl. Always liked the look of the combo together. Also bumping this to see some more PPC guns people found. Larry

Here’s a picture of the rib mounted, bought the gun at the Spring NE Ohio Bunch. Last month I had a retired machinist Mount the rib. Was gonna do it my self but don’t have the equipment. Kinda looks like a PPC gun. There is a rib like this for sale in the classifieds, Larry

Wow that looks like a Davis grade 4, if I remember right, 4b had the full lug and a bull barrel, right out of the late 70s early 80s, on a ruger . Wonder who made that cylinder release,Power or Davis, original Rogers/Safariland stocks. What a great find especially for that price. Hope you enjoy it. Now look for a RENO holster and you are set.Congrats

Here is my Service Match gun which is similar to PPC. It is a model 14. Work was done here in Australia by Grycol International (who are the sole Australian importer for S&W).

Had the barrel & rib cut to 5, he moved the front sight back so the hole for the screw lined up with the hole for one of the rib mount holes. Put a quick crown on it then milled the rear of the barrel at an angle. Will have the barrel removed Tuesday to file the metal left by the frame and polish the cut. Not done yet, may leave the cut in the white to stand out. Larry

Here is the Davis revolver ai used in PPC. 6” slab sided barrel with full underlug and three position adjustable foresight. There is also an additional latch to replace the one at the end of the ejector rod.

I was competing for about a year and one of the older guys was retiring and moving. He asked if I was interested in his revolver. A bit of palaver and a handshake sealed the deal. We shared it for the rest of the season until he moved. He bought it new, built on a 64-3.

He had custom grips for his hand and took them as they were totally wrong for me. I had a pair of targets stocks and a rasp. I removed all the wood that was in the way of my grip and the result is what you see. Ugly but they mesh with my hand.

Kevin

My PPC 10-6 that I bought at Cabela's years back. No builder name on the revolver. The trigger stop is a soft "red" button that seems to limit this to DAO. There's an active club in Lebanon Pa. where I might have to try this out.

Most likely a pencil eraser - an old PPC gun trick.

The first one I had had a piece of surgical tube around the top of the trigger, an eraser reduced and superglued was an improvement.

Here's a good one. John Hurst (LAPD gripmaker) gave this to me years ago. Badly out of time, I had Harry Davis, master LAPD Armorer, replace the cylinder and fix the carry up and endshake. Superb action. Stocks are Hurst, open back and frame notched. Nice gun.

Seeing all the PPC guns brings back memories. I still have my collection.

My first one built by Ron Power back in 1978 on a 15-3. Hogue grips back when he built them in 2 pieces and before rubber. Davis/Aristocrat rib

As the ratchets begin to wear I built its replacement on a 10-7. Early Hogue Mono Grip. Davis/Aristocrat Rib.

My gun for indoor practice on a 22 Long Rifle only range built on a 17-4. Also with a Davis/Aristrocrat Rib.

And my 4” built on a 10-7 for a lark because the chief said I could not qualify with a 6” gun. It is a cut down Bomar Rib.

Hello out there. Loved seeing all of the pics. My grandfather used to custom make and shoot ppc way back when. Seeing these beautiful
Handguns brought back some great memories of learning to shoot and work on guns. Im trying to reconnect with his work as much as possible and have finally started shooting myself again. His name was Joe Kassay, Joe K's Guns s and Ammo if anyone has any pics or stories I'd love to see and hear

Came across this thread and I had to add our PPC to the impressive list of shooters on here.

Picked it up on GB a few weeks ago and I'm having a custom display case made for it by Goofy Mastiff on eBay.

The gun is a 686 that was customized by Gunsmoke Custom Wheelguns. ( American Guns )

I haven't been able to shoot it yet but I expect it will be quite the plinker.

Seem to be fascinated by the PPC revolvers, here is the 3rd one. Bought here in the classified from SW CQB 45. I have seen pictures of PPCs with the rib set down into the barrel but never one for sale. It was made by Bob Jones, he made some of the more accurate PPCs out there. His guns are in demand with the teams shooting national combat matches and seldom hit the market for sale that we would normally see. Tickled to own this gun, it is very barrel heavy. It used to be round but it was slab sided to reduce weight. The target is at 50ft off the bench with sand bags sitting on a chair doing the best with the sight picture. It will be in a ransom rest when someone returns it and I want some HBWCs from a big name company. Larry

Glad its working out for you and hell of a group.

I used to load Remmy Gummies and those dudes were accurate but messy and pain in the butt to load because they were .358".

Shoot it and enjoy it.

My 30+ year old Davis Custom has the rib really sunk down. Top strap machined flat and rib taken down as much as possible . Hence it came with this warning "38 wadcutter ammunition only".

Great stuff in this thread. Well, this is a country mile from PPC (and I don't shoot competitively) - but here's one of my standard "3-clip" groups with the 986 PC: strong hand, 25', all shots DA. Stock sights, but I really do like them. Not too shabby for a snub in DA. Got the 44 mag snub too - but still working with that one.

Andy Horvath called and the 4 PPC is done. He only made the barrel. It was a model 10 with a winged cover up rib. Bought a 5 piece of PPC barrel from Portical design here on the forum. Want it to look like the pictures below and gave Andy the pictures shown so he could copy it. Will see in the morning how close he came. Will post pictures tomorrow evening, stay tuned. Dangerous to live so close to Andy, its expensive. Larry

What a co-incidence! I got word that Andy just finished my Model 25-2. I will get out there in the next month or so to fetch it home.

Yes, having Andy in your backyard can be hard to cope with!

Well here it is, picked up this morning. Not exactly what I wanted as far as barrel diameter and the rib actually inset in the barrel top. But its OK. Shot 3 PPC revolvers today and this one shot the best with abt 130 shots. Larry

Nice revolvers for serious shooting.

This is mine. It was made by A.F.Behlert of Cranford, N.J. Got it from an old gentleman, who no longer shot it. It may not look pretty as some of the preceding revolvers, but it will shoot with the best of them.

The 4" ribs are getting pretty rare. They were marketed to newer officers looking to get into PPC shooting with their issued revolvers, and with the easy to remove screws, they could put them on for a match, then take them off for duty use.

Many officers stopped there, but more than a few got serious and had custom PPC revolvers built later.

I searched for 2 years to find the rib on my gun. There were actually 2 separate ones for sale at the same time. Larry

Default Thread Needs Some Color

Some of you may have seen the builder of this gun on one of several documentaries on Black Bear and even Panda's in China. He is Ben Kilham of Lyme, NH. I like to say "we" built it, but I was the guy leaning on the shovel. Back then the bear were in the basement now he has a sanctuary. The gun was a blast to shoot in PPC matches, stood out on the line and those bear cubs in the basement had very sharp claws!

Much prettier than my old A.F. Behlert.

I tangled with a Black Bear cub at a trading post in Canada in about 1956 or so. I was a tad younger then. We had been to Shining Tree, Canada fishing and stopped at the Trading Post. The Trader had a Black Bear cub as a pet chained up in the front. I was playing with/watching him and got to close. He latched on to me like I was his long lost friend. I had a leather buckskin jacket and that protected me from his claws. My parents and the Trader had a heck of a time getting him to let go. Had not thought about that in years until I read this post. Thanks.
