Always admired the PPC Revolvers & trying to get some ideas on a project.

I'll get some pics of my others but here is my PPC ..its on a 1 1/8" barrel,based on a Model 13 has a Aristocrat rib sight,crane lock up and this one has an adjustable slotted lock strain screw set up to adjust spring pressure for slick action but adjustable for harder/lighter primers.

Thank you "Bullet Bob" for the suggestion. Just needed to reword my searches and came across several threads. Would like to see more pics as it doesnt seem no two PPC setups are alike. Great to see all the custom mods and combinations.

That is an extremely cool looking gun! I haven't seen anything like it. Who was the gunsmith? I really like the polished band on the cylinder, does this help smooth the action?

HERE ARE 2 PPC REVOLVERS BUILT BY BOB JONES OF JACKSON MISSISSIPPI. I DISCOVERED THAT AFTER I TOOK THE PICS I HAD THE TEST TARGETS WITH THE WRONG GUNS. OOPS! SORRY!

EACH TEST TARGET WAS FIRED FROM THE RANSOM REST AT 50YDS, 24RDS EACH. THE TARGET THAT IS HORIZONTALLY STRUNG WAS FIRED IN A 15-25 MPH GUSTING WIND FROM LEFT TO RIGHT.

THE LEFT HAND GUN HAS 25K + RDS THRU IT. BOTH GUNS HOLD LESS THAN HALF X-RING AT 50YDS

I have a PPC gun made on a model 10 By Cheshire and Perez some years ago. I know that C&R have been out of business for quite some time, but it is a very nice, smooth gun with a slab sided barrel and Aristocrat Triset rib and underlug. It has a nicely engineered forward lock-up on the underlug. I don't shoot PPC as I am not a LEO, but I enjoy the gun a lot. It was very low priced and I added it to my home for lonely target pistols. Is PPC still only available to LEOS or does it depend on the club or which state you live in?

If the polished band helps. Well, mostly inn my mind and it isn't really that polished. The rest of the cylinder is sandblasted with fine 400 grit sand or alu... something.
The under-lug, trigger, thumb latch and sides of the sight rib has been given the same treatment.

If you think my gun is extreme take a look at what's being made by the European gunsmiths these days. Here is one, Ralf Merkle at Merkle Tuning

There is more and more polygon barrels on the revolvers over here. That doesn't seem to be the case over on your side of the Atlantic ocean or?
I have a Mod. 66 that is going to get a Lothar Walther polygon barrel next week ...maybe.

I love custom guns like that! The more unusual the better. There are some gunsmiths here doing some things like that, but the 1911 platform is supreme on this side of the pond. I would like to see a much improved target sight for the S&W revolver to give it a big blade like my Morini Air Pistol with an adjustable width. Sadly Bo-Mar has gone out of business taking their sights and ribs with them. Aristocrat is a better rib for PPC guns and the owner is very good to deal with. I needed a small part for my rib and he just put it in the mail free of charge. I wish he would make a slim cover-up rib made of aluminum for the 6" S&W Revolver. What is the sight on the first gun from the link you sent? It looks good, and I've seen it before but I can't remember where. I have a S&W Model 15 that has a 6" Model 14 barrel, single action lock work and a Bo-Mar rib. It was designed for Bullseye and ISSF Centerfire. I need to get going and post some pictures.

It is a LPA txt sight, and this is the US distributor acording to LPA's own home page.
That sight is quite popular over her, and the quality of LPA has gone up a bit the last few years. It fits straight on the "new" revolvers with drilled and tapped frame for a scope, but you only need to drill and tap one hole on any older gun.

There is also a "non-rib" tri-set sight arround. It is basically a Aristocrat Pistol sight with a new base for revolvers

It is a nice looking gun. Looks similiar to a couple of big barreled revolvers built my a gunsmith in Michigan a few years back. I will have to get mine cleaned up a post a pic ot two.

Here is my tweeked mod 10. Jim Strahan built. Lots of little extras on this one. Really a Sweet revolver. Gave $350 for it in a local shop and never thought twice about it.

Here are a few pictures of a Bill Davis Custom PPC S&W 29 no dash (1959) .44 mag I just picked up, have a few questions, does anyone have a idea of when this revolver was was built and its grade? also what kind of scope mount does it take?

It appears that the Aristocrat rib was milled for scope rings. Aristocrat makes a scope mount that replaces the rib if you want. I think it may take Ruger rings judging by the slots in the top of the rib, but I am just guessing. Someone will recognize the cuts in the rib and know for sure. Aristocrat is at Aristocrat Products - Competition Proven Products They are very nice folks. The front adjusting rib on your gun is out of production now, you will want to hang on to it. I have never seen a .44 magnum done up as a PPC gun before. It probably makes it very pleasant to shoot.

"Back in the day" we had lots of PPC shooting in the SW Ohio area (had several shooting Police Chiefs who encouraged their departments to compete) and civilians were welcome at a number of the events.

I am speaking of the late Sixties and early Seventies. Money was tight so I did a "do it yourself" PPC revolver. I started with a new Model 14 Masterpiece and added a Bomar Rib for better sighting and somewhat higher weight. The grips were custom made by a couple of local fellows "Rainey/Thompson".

The revolver, off the Ransom Rest would do 5/8" at 25 yards with Remington Target Wadcutters and only slightly larger with my cast dbl ended wadcutters. I did an action job and dry fired until my fingers had muscles that gave me great double action trigger control.

Competition was fierce and we got quite close with law enforcement in the area. It was all around a good time for shooters, hereabouts...

I just bought a model 10-5 SW with bo-mar rib and sights, It has a NATIONAL POLICE SUPPLY barrel, buy the serial # it was mfg. in 1977 purchased in N.C. Can someone guess who might have made this pistol and what is the value of it as a 85% gun or is there a collector value in it? It also came with a open front holster stamped RENO OKEECHOBEE, FLA. Any input would be appreciated, thanks Geraldo

Wow. I just looked up Nill Grips and the ones pictured above went for $234, imported from Germany. Looks cool. So I may get out my pocket knife and start making my own. (not really.)

It's doesn't need to be that expensive to build a PPC revolver. Do as much as you can on your own or with the help of friends.
You might want a gunsmith to fit the new barrel. (...and take out the old one, that's where it usually goes wrong)
A trigger job, drilling and taping a few holes can be done by most people.
The gun above didn't cost much more than a new 686.

The Nill grips cost a bit, but when you think about it, it is one of the cheaper custom jobs you can have on a gun, that actually will improve your shooting.
You can get them in a lot of different sizes so they really fit your hand. Use the measuring on Nill's web site, if you are in between to grip sizes go down in size. You don't want them to big.
The gun feels and handles much better. For me they really improved my prone and weak hand shooting.
That they look good is just a bonus. You can easily spend the same money on grips that only look good.

Here is my new PPC revolver made on a model 66-2 with a Lothar Walther polygon barrel. It's almost finished, but still needs to be milled for moon clips.

PPC guns are great fun to shoot even if you do not compete. They also do not have to be expensive. The pictured K38 was bought for $315. I also have 2 6" L frames with geat trigger jobs.

Here's my Model14-3 based PPC gun. I picked it up in February and am at least the 4th owner of it, so I know nothing about it's builder or history. It's definitely got some miles on it, but it shoots far better than I'm capable of and I'm enjoying the heck out of it. If anyone recognizes anything about it, I'd be glad to hear it.
It's got a Parkerized frame and cylinder, blued barrel and underlug, Wichita sight rib and jeweled hammer, trigger, rebound slide and hammer block. I've changed the hammer and trigger for a bobbed hammer and wider trigger, but still have the originals. Also changed the grip to a Hogue Monogrip that I modded and stippled.

It looks interesting an done, in my mind, the right way.
I really don't like to make a notch up under the barrel treads on a K-frame, it's already the weakest point on a revolver with a heavy target barrel.

Sure, here's a couple of shots. It's got the standard ball detent in addition to the spring loaded plunger. I guess someone wanted to make sure it locked up solid.



I also noticed that there are some letters and numbers stamped in the ejector rod recess on the barrel and was wondering if anyone knew if they might give some clue as to who did the original conversion. They are:

K 11 89 4 CK

Does that mean anything to anyone?

My PPC gun made by Cheshire and Perez has the same plunger lock up. I don't think they come from Aristocrat with that system, but it seems to work well. It's amazing how smooth they can get a model 10 to be.

here is another built on a 14-2....This one has a Bomar and a 2nd lock up attached under the barrel...plunger/sping style
This one is old school for sure,really fun too shoot.
I have a few of these I have actually tossed the idea around about selling one...they are just so much fun ...especially if you build one yourself.

Kac, Nice group of guns. The one with no rib, what front sight was used? I'm close to building one and not sure if I should use the rib I have or just add a front site like yours. I have a 6" slab side bbl and I'm going to cut it to abt 41/2" cause it would look neat. Its a pre war long action. I wanted to use the long action vs the short. The Weigand frt site base would be nice bc I could change the blades if I wanted. The bbl was cut on my gun and I want to face off the bbl close to square and glue a site of some sort to shoot it first. Don't want to spend the money on a conversion if it isn't a good shooter.. There are some nice guns pictured in this post. Larry

Not sure what make of front sight is on that barrel. It is around late 1960's early 1970's vintage and who knows what was available back then. It could have been a rifle front sight base, due to the hood set-up. Don't even think about using a hood, they were outlawed years ago, which helps approimate the time frame. The Wiegand front sight would probably be your best bet, especially with the ability to easily change the sight. A Ransom Rest will always be the best way to see if the accuracy is there in your barrel. I have shot some of my best scores with a slab side barrel. Good luck with yours.

Kac, we shoot a 7 week double action league which is the main purpose for the gun. I also shoot DA when I go there to shoot. The bbl was free and has a 1-16 twist which is faster then a S&W bbl. Hope to shoot it this wed then find someone to put it together for me. Cutting the bbl is only to give it a different or cool look. I may re-blue it also, polished by me or bead blasted. Larry

Set up like an LAPD gun from the '70s. When I was at USC back then it seamed like everybody on the Venice Beach detail had one of these. I only wish I could find one of the cool swivel holsters they had!

mod 14 6 inch, full length bomar, smoothed trigger, clipped frame re-stamped serial number and Fitz grips. It has a well tuned action and shoots super accurately. I love this thing!
