Where to find high quality leather for IPSC shooting my revolver
I need info and advice on the following subject:
I plan to try my hand at IPSC, shooting my 4"compensated 586.
I would like to find hand made leather for this fine revolver.
What I would like to find is fine leather like what the great Masters of 70 where used to carry their steel in.
Can anyone inform me where to find this?
Thank you.

Smile,
Wow, and I thought I was retro with my Safariland Worldcup 002 speed holster. I'm assuming you really want to go for the leatherslap look and this isn't for competitive reasons.
I'm not sure about IPSC rules, but in the US a compensator would bump you to open division...

IF you are looking for old school IPSC leather...pictured is an example of Rogers leather for the 4 inch L frame.

I don't think you want to shoot that revolver in IPSC, and if you do shoot IPSC, you want a fast holster, not a retro leather one. You don't get points for being retro or leather. In IPSC you get points for speed, that means a skeleton kydex type holster.

Sorry, I see you are in France so you are shooting European IPSC. Still their rules are not that much different from American USPSA/IPSC rules. Scoring is the same for both organizations, so you are still at a disadvantage with retro gear.

Well that Rodgers leather holster does have some real old school flare to it. Looks a bit like a leather version of my plastic one... but with more class.

Thank you to all of you for those accurate and precious infos.
Bad news I am not allowed to be part of the game with my 4" compensated 586...
May I ask if the tritium sights are also forbidden?
As you may have already guessed it, I do not pretend to win anything... That is why I first thought to classic leather despite the loss of speed.
In fact, my goal is to enhance my handgun skill while having fun.
Tactical awareness is another subject.
I thought IPSC was the right place to do so.
Where can I find a fine holster like the one pictured on your post RussellD?
Once again thank you all for your answers

Smile,
If it is a safe holster use it, and look cool doing it. Like I said it is almost identical to the plastic one I use for my 6".
You can use the compensated gun if it is what you have. They will just put you in the open division with the big magazine, optic topped, compensated race guns. Its ok.
I shot a match here with a 7 shot 686 and pulled the trigger 7 times, that put me in open. I still ahd a fun day.
IPSC is a great way to get comfortable moving around and shooting a gun, especially a revolver.
If I were you... just my opinion. Just get a good open top kydex holster, like a Blade-tech. You meet all of your goals, except the retro cool look.

The rule is rule... But may I suggest a 4" compensated is close to a bow when compared to a glassed eight shot N frame reloaded via clips...?
Anyway, I have another question: I've read somewhere else on the web exchanges between competitive action shooters asking each other what they use for "retro".
What is this?
Thank you for your help.

Smile,
"Retro" is a new division in ICORE, a revolver only game (International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts). In retro, it must be a 6 shot gun loaded using speedloaders. ICORE has open with optics and comps and 7 or 8 rounders. Limited division keeps the 7 or 8 rounders, but no optics or comps.

Great idea!
Great idea!
Thank you for the info.
Is this sport popular in the U.S. ?
It seems to be a great idea.
I have never been enamored with glassed highly tuned handguns and the according space age plastic made holsters.. Of any flavor.
But I've learned one must never say never...
Anyway, a retro oriented new game restricted to revolvers may sound right to me.
