Default Best magazine pouch for an M&P .40

Hi There,

I'm a new member from Oregon and this is my first post in the forum.

I'm planning to begin shooting IPSA matches with my M&P .40 and I've been looking around for a DOUBLE magazine pouch. I've found some options (e.g., Fobus) but I'd like to know if anybody can recommend one that will provide the best fit for the magazine before I buy. I know Comp-tac sells good individual pouches, but I don't know if having two right next to each other in my belt will be too bulky.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Default Mag pouch

Hello,
I shoot an m&p 9 and 40 in comp and use a Fobus holster and double mag pouch. Works great!
I recently tore the plastic from a couple of the rivets when I was getting
into my Civic 4 door and they replaced it for free. They are basically bullet proof, forgive the pun, but I am 6'2" 270 and when I pretzel myself to get into the drivers seat there is not much going to stop me! My mag pouch was on my left hip and caught the door post. Anyway great product, great service! Oh yeah, why do I drive a Civic if I am so big...37MPG

I don't use double mag pouches because I can't index the rear mag with my finger. Two single pouches work much better because there is room between them and also allows more adjustment. JMO of course.

Are you asking as to which is the best material for a mag pouch or which mag pouch fits the magazine the best? I am using both leather and some kydex (Blade Tech) like OKFCO5 mentioned. The leather ones are DeSantis.

growr,

I'm talking about the latter (i.e., magazine fit). Thanks for the info on the leather pouches...I was planning on going with kydex but I definitely take a look at the DeSantis now.

alphabrace,

Fobus was one of the first ones I looked at. They look nice and pretty affordable too. Thanks for the feedback.

jbull380,

Space between the pouches is something I had not thought about...great point! I was just looking at the Comp-tac site and they have a double magazine pouch which seems to have plenty of room to index separate magazines...pricey though.

Here is a video that came up when I searched the subject on youtube. I only post it because it does show how to index a mag and why you need some room to do it properly. I'm sure there are other videos showing different variations but this one will do for the purpose of this thread.

I like 2 single pouches also. The Ready Tactical pouches are good Ready Tactical

Chris Patty ships fast and his shipping rates are very reasonable.

I would like to mention the Comp-tac Beltfeed. It holds 4 magazines. Yes I know the OP wanted a double, but sometimes we miscalculate what's needed. And it is a very good mag holder made of Kydex. Comp-tac does offer a suitable double, but the Beltfeed offsets them so they take slightly more space than a double.

Default M&P .40 MAGAZINE POUCH

I am also new. I have been around guns through the men in my family. I am a great marksman. I am currently learning to be much more confident, competent, and fluid with my firearm. My mentor friend is quite competent. He has recommended that I consider a magazine pouch made of kydex. I am seeking input and thoughts...pros, cons... Thank you.

Default M&P 40 mag holster

I like the Galco double and single. I typically use the only the single quick belt pouch when on exec protection details. Works fine for me

I am a big fan of both Comp-Tac (holster for my M&P) and Blade-Tech (Holster & mag pouches for my 1911) but I recently found a double mag pouch made by Uncle Mikes that offers good retention, and can be had for a very reasonable price. @MPshooter wonder if I recognise your avatar's subject from another NWFA forum...

I shoot with double pouch holder. Both mags are loaded the same and my motion is down to the first mag and pull it, then if needed to the same place, just a hair further back.

I store partial mags in the pocket - not a mag holder.

For certain shooting sports, there are other advantages - you may have mags loaded to certain capacity to facilitate your reload location at slide lock.

The thing to double check is to ensure you can get to the pouch while seated or prone.
