Default Need 50 yd prone PPC advice

I am not average size being 6'03" 240-250 lbs.

long arms
left eye dominant
right hand
chest 52"
neck 19"
(ok.....I am jacked!)

I cannot physically have my hands touching the deck with the gun in my hand. My body make up will not allow me to get low enough, so I have to raise my arms up to bring the sights to my level and since the hinge (my elbows) does not allow straight up movement.....the sights move closer to my face which opens of the rear notch.

I wear cheater glasses for a clear front sight and in the prone position, my eyes are looking over the glasses and having to turn my head to get my left eye though the lens.

I have tried right eye and my left is a bully.

I actually have to put the gun in my left hand and shoot prone to be more be able to look through my lens but its a fight as I am holding my neck as far back as it will go and its not enough.

I could "stand" higher on my elbows but I lose all stability the prone position has to offer plus the rear sight notch is now huge and near my face.

I read the rules for prone position and it allows for some type of roll over prone. I am a visual kind of person and need to see it.

any LARGE and IN CHARGE PPC shooters deal with the same issue and what is your solution to be more efficient at this position or anyone with visual aid (pics) to help me out.

or if you have some images of prone from a PPC match that you think migh help me out....I would appreciate it.

I shot two 1500s today (rev/auto) and both times I was fighting that position and I now those shots affected my score.

you can email pics to swcqb45 AT sbcglobal DOT net

thanks in advance

here is a perfect example of how I am doing it

here is another example of what I tried (somewhat rollover) but my body dimension does not allow me to do this as my hands are further off the ground than jerrys'

WELL, YOU CAN HAVE YOUR HANDS TOUCH THE GROUND. THE BUTT OF THE GUN CANNOT TOUCH THE GROUND. ZEISS COMPETITOR FRAMES HAVE AN ADJUSTABLE NOSE PIECE THAT ALLOW THE GLASSES TO BE HIGH ENOUGH SO THAT YOU WON'T LOOK OVER THE TOP. JIM P

No pictures right now but will try to get some this weekend. MKT will probably post something soon. I think you are on the right track with your idea of shooting left handed if using a modified roll over. Otherwise you will cut off blood supply to your dominant eye which will cause bad vision. I will try to get photos to you Saturday afternoon.

CQB,

I don't know if I have any pictures of my prone, I'll look through what I have though. Since my shoulder surgery I have had to adapt my prone and it may work for you. I kind of roll on my side, which allows my strong arm to be flat on the deck and I tuck my ear into my shoulder. This "tuck" rolls my head 90 degrees but the sights stay in the center sweet spot of my glasses. I describe the position as being similar to a rifleman's prone.

Let me look through my pics.

Here is a shot I found of my prone. It doesn't look like it but two fingers on my left hand are on the deck under the butt of the gun, raising the gun just a little.

try it, the slight lift I get from my two fingers under the butt may just raise the gun enough to get the sights in line with your dominant eye.

Ive had to go to a pretty extreme golf club style grip, index finger,of support hand on ground, grasping butt end of long Davis PPC grips and small finger of hand holding the gun. biggest thing is to do some stretching to loosen up my neck before prone. And parctice position at home. Its sure not easy getting old.Good luck Bob

thanks to all....I will start to work on that position.

I will also try that golf club grip with my revo and BD grips.

may be a little harder with the auto and the golf club grip but I will dry fire practice this week.

MKT, you coming to Florence this year?

If you can't see it , it ain't going to work , right off the get go.....................

You might try some large lens glasses that ride high and
have the wrap around wire ear fittings, so they do not move around on you.
I use them for shooting and when I hit the trap range.........
nothing worse than glasses that move around with recoil !!
Some use a small amount of scotch tape on the "Bully" eyes lense to help bring the weak eye into more control and train the brain.

Good luck.

I sure hope to make Florence this year, but between the budget issues, possible furloughs and pay cuts I can't say what'll be happening yet.

I am right handed, but left eye dominate, have fairly long arms and shot PPC for many years. I also have a bad right shoulder.

I shot prone with the right side of my body on the ground, my right arm and my body and my legs when looked at from above would be almost in a C shape. Part of this is because of my bad shoulder. With your chest size you might want to pull your left knee up to raise your chest off the ground and put you more on your right side, like I do, even though I am not barrel chested, I like still like that better, because of my bad shoulder.

I would use longish grips on you gun. I put my left hand on the ground in a fist, and put my right hand on top of the fist, and only grip my right hand with the trigger finger of the left. This raises up the gun high enough to see the sights, with my face laying on my bicep.

I always used a neck hold at 25 and 50 yards.

Hope that helps...
