Default Alternatives to range practice

As much as we all like going to the range to practice, sometimes things get in the way and we can't make it. Has anyone that has the space to safelt use, ever tried using a good quality BB or pellet gun to practice? I know the weight and action is not the same as your real firearm, but I have thought about trying it. I have a field by my house that I could do so with no problem but just can't use an actual firearm in this area. Any thoughts?

I used to have a Crosman co2 pellet gun that I used for practice. I used a cardboard box stuffed with paper as a backstop and taped targets on the front of it. The trigger felt close enough and I used it until the seals went bad and it wouldn't hold pressure. I might just get another one someday.

Any time you can practice offhand, kneeling even off a table
along with trigger pull and breathing is a ......

GOOD thing................ that will improve your skills, no matter what you shoot.

I always try to make the next shot, BETTER than the last.

Good shooting.

Oh yeah, dry fire practice. Practicing that trigger control and grip between range visits helps.

Back when I was an IPSC shooter we all practiced indoors at home. Draw, grip, sight picture, trigger pull, reload, re-holster.
With snap-caps or an empty gun of course. It worked. My BB pistol in my garage helps too but the trigger pull is terrible.

I've been using the laserLyte training cartridge in my M&P 9mm and I really like it. It's accuracy seems to be equal to my abilities so far.

Get a fine air pistol. The Morini 162 EI or for more $$ the Steyr. It will last forever and you can shoot the very best pellets for next to nothing. The guns are so accurate that the usual 10 meter ten shot test target is just one hole that an unfired pellet won't even fall through. There are even 5 shot semi-auto versions available. Mine has a 500 gram (1.1 pound) trigger. There are versions available with heavier triggers for practice. I know the the top of the range APs are expensive, but you will never regret the purchase, and it is very good practice for any kind of pistol shooting. It just happens it's 10 meters from my piano to the laundry room in my house :-)

Best,

Dwight

+1 for dry fire . Trigger control is the most important part of accurate shooting with a handgun .

Dry fire. It gets boring,though.

If you get an air pistol, you can shoot air pistol matches, too. As K38 says, it's good practice for any kind of shooting.

That Steyr LP50 is a sweet gun.

Airsoft is fairly cheap and some cool guns are available.
