Non-Permanent Sight Paint?
I shot a club PPC match yesterday with both a 4" "no-dash" Model 10 and a 6" Model 19-4. My scores were almost identical (452-10x and 452-11x).
Could be my old eyes, but I had a hard time picking up the sights on the 19, what with bright sun, solid black target and black sights. Is there a non-permanent coloring that I could apply to at least the front sight? (I bought the revolver new, I've had it for more than half of my life and I do not want to "Bubba" it up.)
Thanks,
Stephanie

I use the little bottles of model paint and put it on with a tooth pick, then let dry. Gun solvent will easily remove this "permanent" paint.

Here is a picture of the paint I use on all my guns. It comes from the Hobby Lobby Stores. One pen lasts quite a while. I put a coat on the sight, let it dry for about 10 minutes and then put on another coat. It stays on the sights for a very long time (I have a couple of guns that I painted the sights several years ago and they are still bright). It comes off easily with a toothbrush and fingernail polish remover or plain alcohol.

I use bright finger nail polish. It should dissolve easily with acetone if not gun solvant.

{Thumping head against desk} I should have thought of that.
Thanks!

I have used the marker type for sights that is made by Birchwood Casey I believe. I have white and day glow green for indoor shooting and it comes off easily and works well.

I use some stuff called "Bright Sights"- you can buy a small bottle(get the cleaner as well) or you can get the 'KIT' in which the cleaner is included. Be SURE to clean and let dry, the let the paint dry good. Has worked for me for a good number of years on both Semi Autos, and revolvers.

I have GREEN Sight Brite sight paint on my 64 SSR, 442 Pro, 15-5 Snub, and 10-5 Snub. I believe Midway carries it.
I did try Green fingernail polish. The sight paint stayed much brighter than the fingernail polish for me.

In addition to all the good ideas above bright fluorescent paints are sold for making fishing lures. They’re best with a white under coat.

Soot
Hi Stephanie,
If the 19 doesn't have a colored insert you might try to soot it up with a candle. Even a birthday candle will do. It will wipe right off and gets so black it will give you some contrast when shooting into a black target.Hold the sight just above or in the high part of the flame.
Next match check with me and you can try an aerosol sight black.
It gets on a person's clothes but washes right out and it cleans up off the gun with paper towel.
Thanks and good shooting!

I've used "White Out," with reasonable success. My favorite is a bottle of fingernail polish that I "borrowed" from my wife years ago. Add a coat as needed.

Hell, Mike, a couple of more points and I would have beat you.
I don't know if anyone shot any better, but it was interesting to me that as of the time that I left, two of the top three scorers had used wheelguns.

Tommy Bryant
Howdy,
Ol' Tommy Bryant has a good revolver score bottled up in him somewhere.
He was off a little Sat. but he is always worth keeping an eye on.
I pulled the fiber op sight off of the 27 yesterday and I'm going back to a blackened post. It is what I shot the best with Sat. I know better but I wanted to try the F.O. sight
I won't make next weeks match but I'll see you somewhere.

Mike,
I probably won't make the Bowling Pin match, either.
Kinda wish Greg would post the match results in the Range Report section of the club's website, but as my grandma would tell me, "if wishes were horses, then beggars would ride".
Which I guess meant something.
