I started making Kydex speed loader carriers a while back. First for the K and L frame Safariland Comp III Speed Loaders.
Then I decided the BUG guys needed a J frame Speed Loader carrier for the J Model Jet Loader, which is the only Great Speed Loader made for the J Frame 38. So I ordered a couple J Model Jet Loaders to use for a Fit check on the carriers, and also to get a size for my Form. Then I ordered a K Model and an L Model Jet Loader also to check the fit on my kydex carriers, and to get a Form size from.
Well I decided I liked the Jet Loaders a great deal. I just placed an order with Pistoleer for 5 more K Models that will work with both my old SSR Gun a 4" 64, as well as my K Frame BUG Revolver a 2" 15-5.
The K Model Jet Loader will also work with my 3" 66-2 and my 2-1/2" 315 Night Guard, as well as my 2" Model 10-5.
What advantages do I see that the Jet Loader has over a Comp III?? When you load both, the Jet Loader feels much better made. Then we have a slightly smaller diameter of the Jet Loader. As tight as the speed loader fit is on a K Frame, the slightly smaller diameter of the Jet Loader is a help.
While you can get by with 3 Spring Loaded Speed Loaders, I prefer 10 total. That way I do not have to mess with loading any speed loaders during a match. You can always do "Load and Make Ready" with cheaper HKS speed loaders.
Another option is a Safariland
Loading Block to stage your ammunition in. Those on a tight budget could get by with 3 Jet Loaders and a Loading Block.
I really like the Safariland Comp III Speed Loaders. And at $17 a pop, they are a very good deal. The K Jet Loaders are just under $25 each. I have concluded that the Jet Loaders are worth the extra $8 each, or $80 extra for 10.
My advice "If you are happy with your Comp III's, do not Try or Buy a Jet Loader to Try Out. That way you will not have your Comp III's in the for sale section.
