I have been shooting an SD with a FO front sight.
I just got a FS M&P and am looking for a recommendation for sights. Primary purpose will be IDPA and Steel centerfire.
I am north of 50, and use reading glasses.



For those not familiar, our typical outdoor IDPA club has
1 target @35m / match
1 @ 25m - 35 / stage
Many 10-25 - poppers and other steel activators have to be a minimum of 10m for safety
Many 5 - 10
Few <5 (from contact out)
And it is not uncommon to have to hit the 4x4in area at the 10m and under range. (10x10cm)
We also typically will have some kind of mover on half the stages - those require quick pickup to engagement. (swingers, resurrection, etc)

The 10-8 setup is very popular.

For me and my much older eyes, I like a wide black rear sight with a thin Fiber Optic front. Seeing light around the front sight makes it easier for me to get the precise shot I need on the distant and tight targets but still shoot fast on the close ones.

It really depends on what works best for you. I know some really good shooters that use the big FO in both sights, I don't know how those big dots don't distract them but everyone is different.

I really like the Warren/Sevigny sights and especially the "Tactical" which seems to work better for me than the "competition" version.

I had 10-8 sights on my 1911 and after a year changed to the Sevigny but they may be just right for you.

I'm 58, and also need glasses to read. I shoot IDPA, USPSA, and steel. I just put a Dawson fiber optic front sight on my full size 40. I went with the .100 wide X .155 tall sight blade which is shorter than the factory front sight. Since I'm shooting minor power factor loads, I needed a shorter blade in order to raise the point of impact. I highly recommend the Dawson. I would prefer an all black rear sight, (gun came with factory night sights) but don't want to spend the money.
