Haven't heard of any in IDPA, USPSA is going to allow 8-shots to be used scored minor.

The new rule book went into effect 10/1/2013 (online only). I don't shoot revolver but there don't seem to be many changes (there are notes in the margins explaining changes) There are some clarifications about certain parts that were in a "gray" area under the previous rules. I don't see where the book is downloadable to non members on the IDPA website (but I may have missed it) I have a copy on my computer if you have a specific question that I can help with.

Anybody can download the rules.
I shoot IDPA revolver, and there are no more rule changes slated for 2014. The only sig change to SSR was a 3 ounce increase in the weight limit. Everything except ESR is now 42oz.
You must be thinking about the USPSA revolver changes.

I have heard that "illegal equipment" is now allowed at the match but the shooter will not be scored with everybody else and gets a DNF for the match. I don't know if this is true or not. If so, it would appeal to me in that I can actually load my 627 with eight rounds vs. six and not waste time worrying about where the empty chambers fall. I don't see them adding a new division called Custom Defensive Revolver any time soon so I'd be happy if I could just compete with 8x357 Magnum, scoring be damned. And of course I'd be shooting full power .357 Magnum loads.

I see how that's done now. You log into the IDPA site and then copy the link to the rulebook PDF. I didn't try that figuring it wouldn't work. I was looking at the public part of the site and didn't see a link. Now I know better, thanks.

I'd like to see IDPA allow 8X357's in the CD class. No exceptions for power factor. That way an 8 shot revolver is competing head to head with an 8 shot semi auto. That would be fun!

Yes, but it's called "Not for Competition" Calibers smaller than 9mm are allowed...longer barrels...your 8 round revolver..optical devices....all could be used. Equipment rules (holster types/positioning, etc.) all still apply. It is NOT written that you would be given a DNF.... Implementing this category is up to the discretion of the match director and is only allowed at Tier 1 (small local) matches.

I have to look into this....it may already be legal. You have always been able to shoot a given firearm in a HIGHER class if you choose to do so.....
I put an email out to my Match Director buddy.....now I'm thinking the 8 shot is taboo in any class

They're OK in ESR, here's a quote from the rulebook:
8.2.4.1.6. Be loaded to the division capacity of six (6) rounds in the cylinder. Seven (7) and eight (8) shot revolvers are permitted, but may only load six (6) rounds.

I do this at our local matches often. I call it the Outlaw division and score it along with others for comparison. I'm also the club contact and MD/SO many of the matches so I get some latitude.
I like to shoot what I carry now and then for practice, I keep a laser on every gun that gets carried. It is good to practice with what you carry and IDPA is good practice. Many think the laser slows you down, it may at first but with practice from 10-50 feet the laser is much faster for me. I shoot ESR & SSR Master.

Ok, so can someone clarify what division/organization I can shoot my R8 in....that allows me to load 8 shots....AND treats me like the rest of the shooters (many with more ammo) and gives me a score at the end?

This is probably the least complicated, least amount of rules, and generally a lot of fun.

Yes,
Yes,
Don't know of any weight requirements
Have you tried the club locator at the link I provided? That way you will know for sure instead of thinking.

How generous of them... let a 9 shot super shoot major... are they THAT afraid of revolvers winning? Oh well you don't get minor penalized for "A" shots :-)
