WOW, great idea, I am gonna go out back and shoot some tomorrow for sure. Yeah, I have the M36 and M60 and Dick Special, but my Lew Horton M24 44 special just sits in the safe and begs to be shot! When I got it I worked up some good loads but then the gun got too valuable to carry, but I damn wll sure will still shoot it!

I'm glad to hear that, as my selection of snubbies is pretty small.

I have several Smiths, no Smith snubbys. My closest Smith snubby is a 4" Model 57 .41 Mag with a tight shot group at that range. I love that gun, including the wooden grip. The only actual snubbys that I have are two 2" .38 spl Charter Arms, pretty tight shot groups from that range, and one 2" .38 Spl Rugar LCR that I purchased for my 78 year-old mother won't hit the broad side of a barn from that distance. Maybe if I put a Chrimson Trace on it. I figure that if she ever needs it, it will most likely be in her farm home where the longest room is about 20'. If someone breaks in, paint the dot, and try to make at least one score.

I am going to run this again until the end of june so you have one month to participate.
Two matches
10 yards
25 yards
Up to 3" barrel, ALL OFFHAND
Group size will be the winner, two prizes awarded, one for 10 and one for 25 yard groups.
I need to see picture of target, gun and a ruler to keep everyone honest.
I have seen some good targets and some nice guns.
You folks have got out and shot your guns which is the real goal.

If I can work this in this weekend between all the chores and the honey-do's then I'm game. My entry will include a 637 and I'm not sure yet what else. Glad you thought up this thread and just as glad I found it!!!

OK, will do.
Looks like I need to get one of my nephews to come over & "educate" me - I don't like to be a burden.
Thank you.

Wow, I got to get me some wadcutters. I like the perfect round holes they make.
I just got hip to this contest and read all the posts. I am happy to see so many shooting revolvers because that is what I like too. Looks like lots of fun and I hope to participate although I never have been able to post pics on this forum from my laptop. I think I don't have the proper version of Adobe and I can't seem to get it to ever download.
Just some thoughts...
2 inches is a convenient size for us to think in and talk about but a lot of S&W J frames are 2 & 1/8 inches.
I see you changed the rules for this month to all 3 inches which is fine.
If you keep this competition up (and I hope so,) maybe it would be more convenient to start a new thread for each month after this.
How do I measure? Is it center of hole to center or closest edges or furthest edges?

3 inches is good, I will get to try my new Governor at 25 yards with .45acp and 45 long colt, see which does better.

I am going to try to shoot some this weekend.
Just an idea to level the playing field. Multiply the group size by the barrel length.
A 2" group with a 1 7/8" barrel (2*1.875=3.75)
should beat
a 2" group with a 3" barrel (2*3=6).
Maybe even a caliber multiplier... 44 beats 38 beats 32 beats 22...
Just a thought.....

I used YOUR tape measure and got 86 cm C-C. What you get is what counts. Post your group size so I can beat it

or you can measure outside edge to outside edge and then subtract the diameter of the round...just saying...
hang on a few minutes, I just got back from the range with my m.15, m.60 and Governor, the latter shooting both .45 acp and 45 Colt. Didn't do as well as I would have liked, but hey, haven't been practicing, maybe this will pull me back to the Dark side...
Now to download some photos and give my wife her ruler back....

June 6th shooting, need to practice...
So I took my 1970 model 15-3, my 2007 model 60-14, (both shooting .38 Special 148 gr. wadcutters) and my new S&W Governor (shooting .45 acp 230 gr. FMJ, and 45 Colt 250 gr. Cowboy load) to the range this afternoon, but didn't do as well as I would have expected or hoped, especially with the model 15. But checking my logbook, I see that this is the first firing of 2014, only 48 rounds in 2013, 108 rounds in 2012, and 114 rounds in 2011. As compared with 1,139 rounds in 2010. So practice really counts, especially with snubs. So here are my pics. The 25 yard results with the Governor were so disappointing, I tried the 38s at 25, and they did better, but not super.
btw, you didn't say, are we supposed to be shooting double action or single action? I shoot double action, which tends to favor my m.15.
I am having trouble re-sizing my 25 yd. .38 special photo, will try later.

Ed333 you got the idea. Shoot your guns. Groups are 10 shots. Please go back and shoot some more. The whole idea is to shoot more. Be a better shot and bond with your firearms. It looks like I already have you shooting more than last year.
Double or single action is fine, just state which you use.
Everybody wins.
I hope to enter my first target by Sunday.

Well, I can't seem to downsize this one picture, don't know why, but I did better at 25 with the .38 specials, than with the 45s, and to my surprise, I did better (5" group) with the m.60 than with the m.15 (7" with a couple of flyers, they were on me, not the revolver.)
I didn't try any .410 rounds in the Governor, should I?

I am new here but I'm lovin' this idea and would like to participate.
I'm glad you guys held it to 10 shot groups because this 396 hurts my vagina if I shoot it too much.
25yds. DA.
I thought I was doin' good but when I walked up I saw I wasn't. Oh well.
10yd stage I think I screwed up because I think I shot more than 10 rounds. Either way, fun stuff.

Mine is a non entry as I forgot a ruler. I just wanted to post it as I didn't forget to go, I just am not in the habit of packing a ruler...
10 yards standing double action slow fire:
The best part is I don't think I've EVER shot this gun this well...
The ammo was a Lee 358158RF that I powder coated with Harbor Freight matte black and it was pushed by 3.7gr of Titegroup over a Winchester SPP. The up high one was my hand finally asking me what the heck I was doing using the 637 as a range gun...

Well, this a a day of firsts for me. I'll go ahead and post these pic's, but they are ineligible because I forgot the rules- I'd forgotten the 10 shot rule. Also- the indoor range I was at was a 50 footer, hence the 17 yard post.
The 10 yard target has 6 holes in it. This is the first time for me reloading .38 sp. wadcutters. I've never done as good with this model 10-5 snub. In fact, the rest of our session, I could not do as good with my 686.
This ain't but 17 yards, but I'll post it anyway.

This thread ought to put 'paid' to all the know-it-alls who maintain that snubs are only close-up belly guns, that there is no point in trying to shoot them at any distance, cause they just aren't accurate enough...HAH! I have been criticized for bringing a snub to a falling plate match, by a race gun guy, for 'slowing things down too much'. My reply, you can't miss fast enough to win.

Wow just saw this and was excited... then read again and saw 10 yards not 10 feet and 25 yards not 25feet. My heart sank these old eyes cant even see the paper at 25 yards.. plus our indoor range we use only goes to 18 yards. I will have to find a different way..
BTW the 3" barrel at 25 yards.. if I use rounding my 3.25" 945-1 is really a 3" barrel. Now I have a chance

mblisss57 Go ahead and shoot your 45. I used an officers model. It shot well too.
Keep em coming.
harleyfan Take them targets back to the range and add enough holes to make 10.
If anyone else needs to shoot at 50' go for it, just note it. I will add another prize.

It was raining pretty good at the range today. I'm afraid I didn't really follow the rules very closely. Offhand, 25 shots DA at 15 yards with my old California Department of Corrections 64-4. Anyway, I shot this target so I'll post a picture. On the up side, I am in accordance with the last rule... I had fun!

All shooting is supposed to be fun (unless it`s in self deffense) and this is a good way to compete in a friendly manner..
And how many of your shooting buddies can say " i have entered the world championship in snub shooting"

The last two posts have the idea of the match.
NOW I am going to change the prize to say "WORLD SNUBBY INTERNET CHAMPION".

OK... my son and I got back to the range this morning, and I had a chance to do some more targets and to adhere a bit better to the rules.
Ain't gonna win anything here, but if I may- I am very pleased with the first target below. And a bit puzzled as well.
The one below is as far back as the range will go. I struggled a bit at 50', as the lighting was a bit dim in that lane. I could make out hits in the black rings, but had no idea where the rest were going.
I'm a beginning shooter, and a beginning re-loader. I've never fired a handgun in my life until October or so of last year. I bought this 10-5 snub around Christmas last with thoughts of a carry piece. My other revolver is a 686-2, 4", and I can't say enough about how much I like it. But today? with the .357, I could not do as well as this.
Now, my son has two Glocks, his newest a .45 ACP hip cannon. With that thing? I could hardly get it on the cardboard!

Here are my two entries. Finally !!
The wife wanted to come along as well and finally shoot the model 19-2 that I bought her for our wedding anniversary last month.
Mine
Mod.19-2
Iver Johnson
My wife's first outing with a snubby
Unfortunately all that I could find for targets were my kids small BB gun targets

I also brought along and shot my 3.25"DAO 4053TSW for S&G's just to see if I could still shoot it.

I just read the post on how the holes should be measured for spread.
I measured the spread of the holes from outside to outside so I guess the 38 target should be 2.50" not 2.75" and the wife's 38 target entry should be 6.50".
I'll leave the 25acp as it is since at best we're only talking about a 1/16 of an inch anyway.

Nice targets and good shooting. I thought the Iver Johnson was a 22 until you said so and I looked at the 50 gr fmj.
Really liking the 40 shorty.

I'll sort it out at the end of the month. Next month I will start a new thread.

Thanks. The 40 is a really sweet shooting gun for it's size.
I'll be shooting that one again real soon along with a 4506,586 and a 629 in the other match that you have running.
