The girlfriend shot with me, so I posted her target too.
Probably her 3rd time out ever. About 7.5" group.

Okay, I finally got out with a couple of my favorites. My Colt DS, and my 19-5. I'm only posting my 10 yard groups, they were decent, while my 25 yard groups were embarrassing.
I did have to change my style for this type match. I've spent my entire life focusing on the target, and I've always shot well doing so. On one of the ships I was on, there was only one guy who could out-shoot me with the .45, and he was a LCDR who had been on a pistol team, and when I worked for Brinks, in our branch I was the second highest shooter after the instructor. Anyway, the older I get, the less that's working out for me. So, I put on my reading glasses, focused on the sights, and set the fuzzy black dot on top of them. Bingo! With the DS, my best was 2.375", and with the 19, my best was 2.10". I was pleased, but I'll still be working on it!

RobertJ, nice targets. I guess we can see which is the better revolver .
I use a Merrit optical thing. Its just an aperture that sticks to my glasses and makes the sights AND target clear.
I too was a bullseye shooter until I got lead poisoning. The last match I shot, I was the only one there with iron sights on my 45.

FWIW, I sympathize about the eyes. Until I got my new glasses, I saw three fuzzy dots.

Here's my targets. They don't have to be considered for the competition because I didn't follow the rules 100%. Not that they would win anyways but none the less here they are. Both guns where shot at a distance of 35' (that's the part I didn't exactly follow the rules), off hand and single action.
Smith model 649-5 (now one week and one day old, with a total of 125 rounds fired, 105 by me). 35', off hand, single action. Remington .38 special+p 125gr SJHP. That's a 5.5" group.
I had one target that has a 5.25" group but I didn't use it because it technically had a miss because one of the shots was just off the black.
And that is my "Silver"Governor. 35', off hand, single action, Federal .45 ACP 230gr FMJ. That was a 4.5" group in 12 shots instead of 10 thanks to the slight flyer that came on my 11th shot. Had I quit at 10 that would have been a 3.25" group. But hey, shooting is fun so no way I was leaving two in the cylinder!

Governors rule
Don't you just love that Governor? Mine almost makes up for the 5" Model of 1989 625 I let get away...

Hi Ed333. I most certainly do. I've had mine since March or April. I got the first one my LGS got in stock.
It is a blast to shoot and at least for me very accurate. It's very nice to shoot with either .45 calibers and if you want to feel some recoil then any shotgun load will provide it. I especially like the Winchester PDX1s, but they are a little pricey to just shoot.

I'm glad you guys held it to 10 shot groups because this 396 hurts my vagina if I shoot it too much.

here is my try at 10 yards with my 642
IMG_1776.jpg
I think I did ok, with some more practice I think I can do better. I added the sticker to the target because the sights are very hard to pick up on the blue background. Shot this with PMC Bronze 132 grain FMJ.

I am not entering the match yet, but this thread did get me out shooting my 2.5" 66. I had never tried shooting it for groups at anything over 5 yards. I was surprised at how well I did. The yellow group was 23ish yards (max distance at the range I was at), blues are 10 yards, reds are 7 yards. I need to get out more often to shoot the little snubbie, it has potential.

If only you had a Dan Wesson, you could easily change barrel length!

Thanks! I should also add that I was standing on my hind legs like the rules state. I also ran 5 rounds (separately) over a chronograph at a target at 20 yards, and found they hit to POA at that distance, and averaged 872fps--it's a nice load.

Nice gun, nice target. Double action.
Extra points for +P.
May I have an exact Center to center measurement?
I will shoot my target double action.

Thanks! I measured outside-to-outside with my calipers and got 1.675 inches. Drop one caliber size (.357") for a center-to-center measurement, and I'm left with:
1.32"

Smith and Wesson model 649-5 with rosewood boot style combats. .357 Magnum Winchester white box 110gr jacketed hollow point. 4" group.
Same gun .38 Special+P Remington UMC 125gr jacketed hollow point. 2 3/8" group.
Here's a shot of both targets.

Better picture of both my targets.
Also found this in the hillside that I was shooting into. Not sure which caliber.

My contribution. I normally do a little better, but an okay result. The LaserGrip target has two shots on the upper left hole.
I usually shoot the same with either.

I'll step it up a bit with some 20yd rapid fire action. Only five shots.
With preferred ammo I could've done a little better.

637, 7 yards DA , one of My self defense loads.
This ties me for second. I guess I need to do it again. +P or magnum loads break all ties.

What powder are you using, David R?
I typically load up my practice DEWCs at 725fps using Win 231 (3.5 grains), but that is still a far cry from 909fps!
725fps hits to POA in my 442, but I'd love to try some at around 850fps.

4.9 231. Max load in Lyman 47
909 fps = 274 FPE.
Next up I have 1,000 Powder coated button nose wadcutters. Wondering how more velocity I will get over traditional lubed. I will report in the reloading section.

I still have a 1975 Kaw 900 Z1. Hopefully I can find both the time (and money) to get it back on the road soon.....
