Default INTERNET SNUBBY MATCH

OK, I want to do this. A weekly snubby match.

Just a few Rules.

10 shots two hands standing on your hind legs. (no resting)

2 distances 10 yards and 25 yards

A snubby is 2" or less for 10 yards.
A snubby is 3" or less for 25 yards.

Semi auto or Revolver. Revolver measures from the front of they cylinder. Semi auto measures entire barrel including chamber.

Since we all use different targets we will go by group size.

If you use laser sights, just say so.

ALL entries need a picture of the target, a ruler and the gun.

I want to see lots of nice looking guns and targets.

If you win this week, you cannot enter the same gun next week.

That is all. I will shoot a couple targets tonight with a 2" and a 3" revolver.

Last rule. HAVE FUN!

David

Match started on WED, so next Tuesday is the last day to enter, then its a new match. Enter early, enter often.

Sounds like fun! I should be able to get out and do this on Saturday.
My only two snubbies will be a 3" semi auto and a 2.5" revolver.
Let the games begin.

17/8" model 36 no dash. 148 HBWC 3.1 Promo. 3 1/4" 10 yards.

3" model 36 no dash. 25 yards 158 SWC 4.1 promo (red dot) 8 1/2" center to center.

There ARE 10 holes. You just have to look for them. Almost needed a yardstick!

I have had better days. I measured my LCP, its over 2", so 25 yards. Its gonna be tough.

Have fun
David

Bump for the weekend. I shot another 25 yard target with a 637. It took me 2 tires to get them all on the paper. Will post it later.

Used my wife's Ruger LCR. DAO 148gr WC at 10 Yards. And yes there are 10 holes there. Just noticed I need to include the gun in the pic. I'll add it to my 25 yard post. Sorry. By the way this is a fun idea.

I used it at 25 also. Will post it when I get the pic uploaded.

My 25 yard target with a ruler 10 rounds at 6-13/16" and a pic with the wife's LCR. It's the only snub in the house. Next closest is a G26 and it's over 3".

Don't we need a time limit?

How about 20 seconds from the leather for 10 yards and 30 seconds from the leather for 25 yards? Reloads included.

Time limit???? #^%^%&)^*&%$^%$&^%$)))___ Are you crazy?

I'm glad I can see something of sights and target and now you want a "don't drop the gun reload"?

I'll try , after the S&WCA Symposium.

Hey, this sounds like fun! I probably won't get out shooting until early next week, but I'm in. I have several that will all want to play!

And what about ammo? Do we shoot with what we normally carry, or can we shoot ammo we made just for paper punching?

You could use time limits but then you would need shot timers and speed loaders maybe even mag pouches for the loaders. I have a shot timer but no speed loaders for an LCR. I think simple is better in this case. Just my thoughts.

Time limit? Speed loader? Special ammo?

Just shoot the gun and post targets.

Everybody can play. Get to know your snubby.

If you want to use a timer, go for it and post what you did.

If your gun is 3.01" barrel, shoot and post what it was. I have a 3" Officers model 45 that I have not measured yet. I will post a target and PICTURE of THE GUN.

I saw a thread of big bore snubbys. Shoot them too. Big holes in the paper, little gun. Sweet!

If I'm supposed to shoot 2 guns I'm in trouble. Here's my dearly beloved 60-4 (half the reason for my board name) fired yesterday at 25 yards with Lee 125 grain cast bullets. Group's 3.22 inches. Maybe next week I can dig out my bigger 5-shot snubbie.

I didn't see this until after the fact, but wanted to share nonetheless. (I will work within the specific parameters next time out). Yesterday's range session featured my recently acquired Ruger Alaskan snub, firing HSM .44 JHP Specials @ ~ 15', double action from strong-side holster. The size/weight of the Alaskan is misleading ... it is quite accurate, and very easy to shoot DA. Though I might not be winning IDPA speed or bullseye points, I'm satisfied in how the Alaskan performed.

Photo shows the Alaskan and a S&W 624 for large frame snub comparison.

Will try to get out this week and shoot. Only have a 2" so I'll shoot at both, I'll probably only be able to get all ten on target at 10 yards, I'll need a yards stick for 25 yards.

This is a great idea.

I told my Dad about this and he wanted to enter as well.

Well as you can see the "kid" needs to improve a good bit.

Here's my target at 10 yards. Ammo was 135gr.+p GD

and at 25 yards.

Here's my Dad's at 10 yards. Yeah, you don't want to mess with him.

Using my pre 36 with 158 RN. When I bought it I really hated the look of these grips but after shooting with them I love em.

10yds roughly 2.5"

25yds roughly 6.75" but I actually shot 14 rounds on this target

Please state the group sizes. I can't measure them from here.

Great to see all participating.

Decision and prize awarded tomorrow night.

That is the first target I ever saw that has a 12.

It IS on a weekly basis.

New match every week. You can shoot the same gun, a different one, or more than one each week. 10 yards or 25 yards.

For Today Tuesday, the winners ARE:

jbull10 yards 2 3/16"
duck 32 man 2.5"
shorty 45 mk2's dad shot a nice target no measurements

25 yards 5-Shot did an amazing 3.22"

The rest of us are over 6"

jbull380 and 5-Shot PM me your address and I will send 25 printed downsized targets in the mail.

The winners can not enter the same match next week. YOU CAN enter at the other distance or use a different snubby.

The best part is everybody that shot honed their snubby skills a little.

Holes in the paper? 3" or less barrel? Shoot away

2" Barrel, 10 OR 25 yards
Over 2" barrel, 25 yards only.

This week i am using semi auto. This limits me to 25 yards. I have no 2" semi.

Lets see some BIG holes in the paper.

This is my weekend try. Not great but I am 69 & shot with one hand. Second try on one target & third try the next day. These are around 950fps. 50 shots & these are the best two targets. We had a ball. I will clean my snub later. 19-5 I bought new in the early 80s. About 5-7/8 on one & 5-3/4 on the other. We will try to do the short shot next week. A mosquito lit on my nose & I blew the group.

Don't sweat it. I actually did that to avoid file photos. AND I checked one gun to make sure it had a 3" barrel using the tape measure in the pic.

Lets keep it light, have fun and sharpen our skills.

I goofed today. I went to the range thinking I had HBWC but had the same ammo as last time. Guess I have to try again!

NICE IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just spotted this - I shot a couple of guns over the weekend but one was a 4" Ruger Service Six and the other a 6906 that has a 3.5" barrel. I'll dig out some other shorties and play SOON!!!

Default This weeks match

This week I changed the rules. Resting at 25 yards is OK and the only prize will be for that match. Its still OFFHAND at 10 yards.

Enter others as much and often as you like.

I will start a new thread in a couple weeks if this catches on with different matches every week.

Starting with my 3" chiefs, I thought I had HBWC with me but had the same SWC as last week, so I shot them anyhow. Both guns off a rest at 25 yards. I shot 2" airweight (because I always have it with me) and the 3" 36 no dash with target stocks.

Just for fun, i shot 10 rounds from 10 meters and then 10 rounds from 25 meters, standing, two hands, OFFHAND , Mod 60 LS 2".

10 rounds, 10 meter, 38 special wad cutters, 8 niners and 2 ten`s...3,5" groupe

10 rounds, 25 meters ......6" groupe

Very happy with that, i got this gun on monday and have only fired 200 rounds with it

Officers model series 80 aluminum frame 3" 25 yards.

This is the second target, I smoked the sights, used my Merrit optical thingy and rested on the railing of my back deck.

I had fun and needed to fire this thing.
I would keep trying but my neighbors must love me.

200 grain store bought SWC 5.0 Promo (red dot) AV 845 SD 14 from this gun 317 FPE. AV 929 from my 5" 383 FPE.

David

This is a blast, keep it up!

I really wanted to do this from the start but work and weather kept me from getting to the range.
I will definitely shoot this weeks though come hell or high water.

I went to the range again Thursday and did some more match shooting. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get the memo that the 25 yard match was changed to a bench rest competition. So here's my entry, fired off hand. The revolver is my trusty Mod 696...part of the reason for my board name. As you can see I like to flinch ever now and then.

Ed

The next two targets are at 10 yards with a Mod 36 and Mod 34. I kinda feel like the 34 is cheating. While it is a snubbie, 22's don't seem to be in the spirit of this match. Feel free to disallow it.

Thanks for the offer but my indoor range lacks rests. Normally I'd just head out back and shoot from my bench but we're currently having a run of those delightful Dixie days when both the temperature and humidity approach 90. I believe I'll pass. You guys have fun.

I like it! Just found out about thru the S&W Ampersand newsletter. Wish this had gone on a couple of years ago when I was really in training with snubs. I will try my model 15 at 10, and measure my Governor to see if it qualifies for the 25.
Timer? Timer? I don't want/need no stinkin' timer!

btw, this should be very instructive to those who think snubs are strictly point and shoot belly guns, good only for 7 yards and in...HAH!

Enter soon. I will make different matches probably each month because turn out this week is slow.

The prize is custom printed practice targets.

David

Nice target xray97

Thanks! Would have liked to shoot the 25 yard portion with a 2 1/2" m19 but unfortunately my range is 50' max. Great idea for some friendly competition!
