Default Model 27?

I am posting this here as you folks can probably help me out.
I do not compete, but like small groups and nice triggers. Am in the market for a 6" to 8 3/8" N frame in 357 / .38 for use at my local 25 yard indoor range. Plan to shoot .38's
I have owned an 8 3/8" 629 Classic I purchased new in 1991 and still enjoy it! Would like something similar but lighter to shoot 38's.
My 629, for some unknown reason has the best single action trigger I have ever tried.
And has had several thousand rounds through it.
Are there specific years I should look for? Model 27? 627? etc.
Thanks in advance!

Not looking to sell any of mine, but you might consider posting a want to buy ad in the appropriate here.
I shoot double ended wadcutters in .357 cases in my .357 revolvers. Makes a nice target load without the "ring" in the charge holes.
Believe it or not, but my most accurate 6" .38/357 is a lowly 28-2.

Just for reference, the 27/327/627 family of revolvers are N-frames.

If you are seeking an 8 3/8" you will need to look at model 27s. This barrel length was never offered in the lightweight 327 or stainless 627 families.

In terms of accuracy, you might want to take a look at the 327s. These lightweight revolvers have Scandium alloy frames and often other weight reducing features.

While the barrels are not user interchangeable, the 327s do utilize the same multi-piece, tensioned design that made the Dan Wessons so famous for accuracy.

My 327JM and 327 TRR8 are the most accurate S&W 357 revolvers I have ever shot even though both are only 5" barrels.

Both revolvers are the more modern 8 shot design introduced in 1997. Both are Performance Center offerings. Both are set up for moon clips. Both use the Interchangeable Front Sight (IFS) that S&W has been using for decades now. This makes swapping the front sigh a 1 minute job. You can carry a fiver optic for indoor low light and a gold bead for sunlight, etc.

+1 for the Model 14, if you're not interested in shooting .357's. Smaller gun, of course- but an excellent bullseye gun.
You might have guessed- I own a 14-2, and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new (to me) 27-2- which shipped from its former owner yesterday!

Found a 327 TRR8 nib. So, I will give it a try!
(Not an easy one to find!)

Thanks again!
