Default Do I Have The Wrong Size Barrel in Competition?

I've noticed the shortest barreled revolvers at USPSA at 4", but often 5". Now with the S&W 929, I'm seeing 6.5" out there.

Since about 2010, on the occasions I've competed with a revolver instead of a Glock I have been competing with a tuned PC 627 with the 2.625" Barrel. Very mobile, clears the holster fast, long shots are fine, etc.

Should I be using more barrel for USPSA? I guess I'll know soon enough as I have an S&W 929 on order, but by the time it gets back from either Apex or TK Custom with advanced competition action work done, it'll be December or January before it's in a match.

Hey who should do the work, APEX or TKCustom?

Thanks for your advice.

I would say, no..
Of course competition is about about doing well or winning your class, division, etc.. And I get into that also. But to me competition is more about how I shoot and to have fun rather than how others shoot. It is to improve my shooting ability.

If you want to increase your ability and have fun shooting a 2 1/2 snubby,, I'd say have at it.. Are you going to compete with JM and his tricked out 929 probably not..

But to me using a 2 1/2" 8 shot in a match sounds really cool !!

And how much fun is it to edge out some of the guys with tricked out long barrel race guns ??
