I'm in a bit of a dilemma here.
I got almost two dozens of S&W revolvers but the two most "efficient" ones for precision shooting in S/A are a 586 no dash and 19-7, both with 6".
Over here the precision shooting competitions are between 15 and 25 meters, sometimes you merely shoot 2 strings of 5, sometimes 4 strings of 5. There's no real standard.
With the 586 I manage 2" groups at 25m, with the 19-7 one hole group at 10m. Long term I gotta decide for either frame and not hopping back and forth, I like them both equally and just can't decide.
Is there a favorable frame for precision shooting S/A only? The majority of competitors are using L-frames.

Whatever fits YOU best is the one to use.

The L Frame is a little larger and heavier, so therefore soaking up recoil a little better and staying on target a little better. An action job, smoothing out everything as much as possible and leaving the trigger as light as possible while still being 100% reliable. Having grips that fit your hand the best can go a long way to your score. NIL Grips in Europe are great grips and I'm very popular with your shooters. I recall shooting the Swiss standard course of fire for pistol and it was 30 rounds at 20 meters, I don't know the target number, but it was an oval type target.

Richard, I basically have Nill Grips on every revolver which are shot S/A only. For D/A wheel guns I tend to use the rubber Hogue which have the finger choils dremeled off.
Guess the L frame wins then due to recoil efficiency.

I am not sure if this will help or not. When I shoot "precision matches" here (NRA 2700), I use a S&W K22 Masterpiece and a K38 Masterpiece for the rimfire and centerfire matches. I don't own, nor do I plan to own an L frame. For centerfire, I use 38 Special wadcutters. With your 19 and 686, if you are shooting 38 Special loads, you have a job ahead of you scrubbing the chambers more than if they were 38 Special chambers.

Grip size between the K and L frames are identical, it is just that the L is a bit more beefier to better handle a steady diet of Magnum ammo.

If you can find one of the model 14-5/6/7 its a K-frame with the underlug. If you like the L-frame weight you might give it a try.These guns were made for PPC distinguished shooting in good shape should shoot 1-2 " at 25. .or a regular model 14 if you dont like the lug.
