A 5/8" post may only fit Revolver Supply's moon clips. Most post type holders use 1/2" posts as that is what the majority of moon clips fit.
I didn't realize this when I got some of RS's clips for my 8-round .38 Super. I made a 4-post holder using RS's 5/8" posts and a sheet of Kydex. RS's clips did not hold the rounds optimally (YMMV - I shoot USPSA and reloads are on the clock) so I went with another brand clip which had the smaller (normal) center hole and I was able to use my 1/2" four post holder, originally purchased for my 625.
Just be mindful that the 5/8" posts will, most likely, "marry" you to one brand of clip.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

Thank you
Bob, thank you; that is great info and certainly something to consider. I would specifically be using RS' .25 8-shot moon clips for my 5 inch, 627, PC; hence, my initial query. So I am assuming the RS' products are proprietary and not universally compatible? Either way, your feedback helps greatly; thanks again. Have a great day.

It really depends on your intended use. I specified that I use mine competitively and therefore I needed a clip that holds the cartridges with the least amount of "flop", for rapid reloads on the clock. If the cartridges wiggle all over the place, it's hard to hit those 8 small holes while under the duress of completing a stage in the least amount of time.
I was naive when I bought my first clips for my 627 and it wasn't until later that I found out there were better options. If your intent is to use clips just for the convenience of loading and unloading your 627, then just about any clip will do and if you are going to use RS's clips, then the 5/8" posts will work best.
Adios,

Bob, again thank you for the great feedback; I am planning to go with the RS Moon Clip 38/357 S&W 627 Blued Finish (0.025 thick) and corresponding RS 5/8 Inch Diameter Dual Post (Tall) Moon Clip Holder.
Any thoughts on these two items?
- BMT Demooner: N38-8 (S&W, N Frame, 8 Round, .38 / .357 (R .61));
- RS Moon Clip Checker 38/357 S&W 627
Hope you had a great Easter; bye for now.

Sal:
There is no finer moon clip tool for the 8-round revolvers than the BMT tool - worth every penny.
I keep reading, in forums such as these, about people bending moon clips, and how fragile they are. In my experience, which is thousands of rounds down range with moon clipped guns, I have never bent a moon clip. I credit that with using a proper tool to load and unload them, and the proper means of carry. The only way I foresee bending a moon clip is if I, or the RSO behind me, step on it during a COF. So I can't really comment on the checker as I have never had need of one.
Adios,

Bob--pursuant to your most recent reply--will the BMT tool work with RS clips?
