At a USPSA match on Sunday, I had just finished shooting the second stage, unloaded and showed clear and when I tried to holster (after hammer/striker down
) I couldn't get the pistol to lock into my holster. I finally got it to lock in and when I went to the safe table to see what was wrong, I found that the end of my compensator was gone. I went back to the bay and found the end. Apparently (judging by the carbon tracks on the break) it cracked in stages until it got to a point where it rotated forward and the last shot knocked it all the way off. This comp is 3 months old. I sent some pictures to SJC and they were very quick to send me a replacement. They said they had never seen a failure like that, they suspect (and I agree) that there was a flaw in the blank before they machined it. Once I adjusted the end of the holster to make up for the missing half inch, I shot the rest of the match without incident.
