Sort of a cross over question in different categories but...
I'm starting to reload and working on different recipes which also is driven by bullets and weights. I think I have things worked out for 9mm and 40 for USPSA and what I'm loading but running into some questions regarding my 45 1911
Been doing a lot of research and testing shooting different weights and brands of factory ammo while determining what works best for each gun. For the 40 I've settled in on Win 3GUN 180gr FP and Win 3GUN 230gr FP for the 45 auto. Discovering the benefits of heavier bullets, lower velocities, etc.
Problem I've run into is finding the right bullets for the 45. The Win 3GUN have a 230gr flat point but I can not find that bullet for reload. 230gr round nose or 200gr flat point only, no 230gr FP
The only thing I use my 1911 for is target and pushing for accuracy and possible future single stack.
So based on punching holes in paper and not self defense, any preference for 230gr RN, 200 gr FP or 200gr SWC? I'm partial to Berry's Bullets and these are some of the ready options for reloading. Think heavier is better but 200 is the heaviest "non" round I can find.

I prefer 200swc's myself. A lot of shooters that want a little lighter recoil will use 185's and some even go down to 155's. With any of them (especially the 155's) you will probably need to have your chamber throated a little, depending on the brand of 1911. Some come that way from the factory...but some don't.

The only time I use heavy bullets in a 45 is for bowling pins. Then I use 255swc 45 Colt bullets.

I use handloaded 200 gr hard cast swc (H&G) for all purposes in my Colt 1911's.

I usually use a 200 gr swc. You can load it down to 750 or so for plinking or up to 900 if you want more oomph
