I'm wanting to get a timer to work down a smoother/speedier draw from concealment. Any suggestions at what brand/model. Also I double up with ear plugs and muffs to save what little hearing I have left (screen name). I cannot with that setup hear the beep. When I was cowboy shooting I would have the timer tap me on the shoulder. I have a old surveyors tripod I was going to mount it on and place at eye-level, then begin draw as the LED started. Is there a timer with a red flash maybe? Thanks.

I have the PACT timer, the reason I choose mine at the time probably 4 years ago now was because it its start signal at the time was the loudest.

Both work, both are relatively simple, our club has several of each, and it really does not seem to matter to the RO's which ones they grab. Both are probably priced within $10.00 of each other. My PACT has been very durable, used weekly I typically only replace the battery once a year. I really don't think you would go wrong with either one.

Both are in the $110 - $125 price range depending on what is on sale and time of year.

I have the Pact chronograph/timer combo and I'm happy with it. However, I don't have recent experience with others.

A set of electronic Pro Ears and a PACT timer will solve both problems and allow you to hear range commands in competition. Much safer.

I have had decent luck with a $10 shot timer app for my smart phone, ear buds, and electronic ear muffs. With this combo I can still hear my surroundings with the ear buds in and ear muffs turned up to max volume. The app isn't as sophisticated as dedicated shot timers, but it's good enough for quick range sessions.

I was thinking along these lines. My electronic muffs even have an audio-in jack, so you can plug the phone in and eliminate the ear buds completely. These ones Howard Leight Impact Pro 30dB NR Their regular ones are only 22 db NR.
Also, these muffs have much better NR ratings than many cheaper ones, yet are quite a bit cheaper than many not as good. Works like normal muffs when turned off, or if the battery is dead.

I use these sometimes turned way up, with foam plugs. When someone shoots, the muffs clamp down, of course, but you also have in plugs. Pretty quiet, but you can hear commands or warnings. You still conduct sound through your skull though. Only solution at that point is to replace your brain with cement!
