Default ICORE Holster Recommendation

Hi all,

I am attempting my first ICORE match this weekend.
I am a southpaw, but over the years have inherited or acquired both a Safariland 002 and a CR Speed Revolver holster over the last few decades.

Having no experience with either of them I am wondering what the collective wisdom is of those that have as to which of the two would be more suitable, as I am sure both are capable.

Thoughts?

5.4. ICORE requires a holster that will securely hold the firearm. The holster must cover the trigger guard area.
Holsters must be attached to the gun belt. The heel of the butt of the gun is not allowed below the bottom of
the belt. (An exception shall be duty rigs and single action rigs.) Tie downs are allowed on single action rigs
only. The Match Director may require a "holster test". With the gun/belt/holster assembly attached to the
tester's waist, the revolver must be retained in the holster when the tester hops. During this hop, both of the
tester's feet must clear the ground, the testers heels must clear the ground by at least 3 inches and the tester
may not hold or touch the revolver.
All retention devices on the holster used to pass the holster test must be
similarly engaged at the start of every course of fire.

Of the two I'd use the Safariland. The only time I ever dropped a gun was from a CR Speed. Never had confidence in it after that. They are fast and do hold the gun secure but you have to be careful.

Thanks for the input. Was the CR holding a revolver or a pistol?
Or do you think it would have mattered?
Thanks!

I used a CR Speed holster with a 625 for years with no issues and then went to a DAA Racer. No issues with retention. Of your two choices, CR Speed and Safariland, I'd go with the CR Speed for its' adjustability.

It was holding my revolver. But I don't think it would have mattered.

The 002 is very popular at my local ICORE matches. If you do a little work with a heat gun you can get a great fit; I'd pick that of the two you mentioned. I don't have experience with the CR though.

Personally, I use a Super Ghost Ultimate that I've put a bit of time into. With some tactical dremel work it now fits my PPC K-frame, standard K-frame, and both N-frames (627 and 629). I've also added an additional retention strap over the top to ensure the gun can't come loose between COF's and I recently retrofit a DAA muzzle support onto it.

If you only use one frame size per match, the DAA is probably the best option. I'll often switch to a K from an N for my second gun so I needed something that could be more universal.
