Cool May 2017 Big Bore IHMSA

Big news (but not S&W related) is that kdiver58 finished his Unlimited match with a tie for his highest ever score, PLUS he shot all four 1/2 scale shoot-off Rams! First time he had ever tried his open iron sighted XP-100 on those little rascals. He was laughing by the second one which almost made him run out of time on the last two! Would have to figure he was having fun!

Not a whole lot to report from my end, except that I shot my Revolver (S&W 29-3 10 5/8") entry rather earlier than usual, which may have had something to do with everything trending low! Sun was low enough that I had to scoot well back from the usual firing point so the front sight wouldn't get altogether washed out. Still had to fiddle with the sights at every stage. Lost a few more critters than usual as a result.

Should have returned the sights to their previously recorded positions for the re-shoot done after noon. Dummy! Managed to shoot par, but no chance of breaking the 30 mark today.

Last entry was a test of the "new" 629-5. No real zeroes, just a few rounds shot the previous day out to 100yards. Weirdly, the 50 and 100m settings are LOWER than the 50 and 100yd settings at the other range! Not the first time that's happened. Did a WAG for 150m, which didn't work out too well. but we SWAG'ed the 200m Ram setting pretty closely after dialing in on the Turkeys. Would you believe 10 MOA change from 100 to 150m and then 11 MOA from 150 to 200??? Had not the Turkeys been so elusive, I would have been ecstatic with the final, introductory, score. 27/40. It's not a good UAS score, but the revolver should do well once dialed in for the more appropriate classes. Thinking FPAS, for one. Maybe BB Revolver later on.

Glad to hear about Kdiver58's score! I saw the results yesterday. Dave's XP100 really is working out for him.
