Default Holster for K Frame and a Beretta.

Hello all,

I'm just getting into competitive shooting and I've got a Model 14 (6") and a Beretta 92FS. Ideally I'd like a competition holster that will take both... does such a thing exist, or am I dreaming?

Cheers

Matt

Dreaming.. to use your words. :-)

Honestly, these are two very different guns and to find a single holster to provide adequate security, covered trigger guards and comfort for both guns that meets the rules of cometetive shooting is unlikely from my experience.

You didn't mention what type of competitive shooting you want to participate in. Recommend reviewing the equipment rules first. Know uspsa and IDPA both have specific equipment rules that include details on holsters too.

I'd invest in Kytex holsters for competition- blade tech or comptec for example- for each gun. Reasonably priced.

Good luck

Yes there is a holster that will accommodate both guns - but whether it is legal or not for the competition in which you desire to participate is another question entierly.

The holster is the DAA Racemaster which uses different inserts to accommodate different guns. There are inserts for the K-frame and the 92.

OK, that's the good news. The bad news is that for the cost of the base holster and two inserts, you could buy two complete Blade Tech holsters and have quite a bit of money left over for other accessories or ammo.

In the US (your board name infers that you may be down under) only your Beretta would be competitive in both USPSA (the US version of IPSC) or IDPA. The 6" model 14 could be used in USPSA, but you would be at such a disadvantage against the minor caliber, moon clip 8-shooters that it would hardly be worth your while. Barrel length for IDPA revolvers is capped at 4.2" - so no go there either.

So get the Classic OWB Blade Tech holster for your Beretta and have at it.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

If you want to get started in competitions the best advice I can offer is find something local that seems interesting and put together a rig that is legal in that particular area. Unless you are an accomplished marksmen with many years experience it will be very difficult to excel in two guns.

I cannot think of a good home for your mod 14. If you have steel challenge available you could do that but again 6 shots makes it difficult. I spent a year shooting a 686 in a steel league and lived to talk about it but it wasn't pretty. But instead of giving up I added an 8 shot revo to the mix and all is well now.

But you really need to figure out what competition you're entering. The Race Master holster Bob mentions is what I use but it must be attached to a competition belt. Those belts are not legal in IDPA (neither is the holster) and the cost is fairly high. Add mag pouches an it's easy to have a belt/holster/mag pouch rig that cost $500.00 US.

The comptac or blade tec holsters can be used with a regular carry belt and with your auto loader you can get inexpensive kydex mag (for example uncle mikes) pouches so that is where you should start. I don't like to recommend tackle so figure out what you are going to do then check what gear is popular for your kind of handgun.

I stand corrected. Thanks for setting me straight. Also agree w/ your counsel about cost effectiveness.
