Default October IHMSA Field Pistol

Attendance was rather light, perhaps due to the on and off wet conditions, which got less wet as the day went on. By the end we were seeing blue skies!

I was hoping to get three entries in, but round number two with the 629-6 "High Rise" was not nearly as good as the 28/40 done first. So we played a bit with .22 rifles, standing. Lisa went after the small bore critters whilst I shot at the 1/5 scale banks with my Left Hand Savage squirrel "no getter". (It has had a poor showing the past couple of outings in the woods, failing to connect even with easy (head) shots.) Apparently it's the operator, as it did well on the smaller steel critters! Even the 100 yard Rams are smaller than a squirrel, so it was a good test.

I think the recoil of the .44 still gets to me after a while, but the bigger factor for the reduction in score on round two was due to a full belly! Got carried away eating some tasty wraps and then mixed fruit immediately preceding the afternoon entry. Could NOT hold as steadily for sure, never mind the misses due to "over aggressive" trigger pulling.

At least a 28 is better than I've done lately, one more month till the calendar reset in the search for AAA class. (You have to shoot at least two 30+ scores in a year to make the jump. I will not likely make International class in FPAS using a revolver but don't know that anyone else has done so, ever.)

Waiting for the official scores to be published, but sw282 already admitted he didn't likely shoot a "42".

Nope... No '42' in 0ctober. A three hour drive thru wind/rain before the

shoot doesn't help either.. Esp for this old geezer.. l even brought a few

freshly baked 'scented boolits' to try this time.. Found a Lyman 44 cal mold

l had forgotten about recently. Tis a #429360 @ 232 grains with #2 alloy.

Doing a bit of reading on this mold on a bulletcasting forum l find it has

a bad reputation... Seems nobody an get it to shoot accurately at longer

distances.. Seeing as l have always been a champion for lost causes, this

is the BOOLIT for ME... Friday l fire up my ancient Lyman Number 61 pot..

Casting up about 120 of them from wheel weights they tipped the scales

almost dead on 240-242grains. l actually started sizing them while they

were still WARM.. A pinch of Power Pistol in the cases to fuel these missiles was next.

Fast forward 12 hours, l am stepping to the Firing Line in Gainesville..

With ZERO practice or load development these 429360s shot pretty good!!

And smelled GREAT from my 629-4, Magnum Hunter too..

75Vette was there with his 629 Power Port, gifted me almost 2 pounds of H110!

lf J Moose wants another try for a coveted ''Thirty'' before the month ends,

there is a match in Patrick SC on 0ctober 14

A dreary wet day didn't keep everyone away Saturday. What else are you gonna do on a day like like that? Shoot steel critters of course!
Here's Jaymoore ready to take another one down with his high rise 629 as Lisa spots for him.

And this is our buddy sw282 sniffing his "aromatic" boolits as he pulls the trigger.

And a few more of the dedicated shooters out for an enjoyable day.

No pics of me, but here's my PowerPort ready for a re-entry.

I think 75Vette's revolver is dirtier than mine! And mine hasn't been cleaned in a year or two.

Lisa's spotting skills continue to improve as well as her shooting! Her assistance was a blessing, in both spotting and morale building.

Seems that "28" was tops in every standing category except .22 Unlimited Standing, where 20 took the top spot. Surprise, that!

Great photos, 75Vette! May have to steal some for the IHMSA folk.

The sooty appearance of 75's gun may come from his powder/bullet combo..

CFE powder leaves a greasy film on my cylinder. Residue from my homemade

bullet lube.. Burnt paint from powder coat bullets turned Vette's cylinder black.

Now the Jmoose gun is a technical MARVEL indeed.. 'Self Cleaning' is just one part

of its mystique. The sighting system alone would Commander Spock and Luke SkyWalker blush.

His next big challenge is designing a holster for that Thimble Rig.. l overheard him and 75Vette

discussing that very subject.. 0ne for Concealed Carry!!

No powder coated bullets Saturday. I used those up. That was lead & gun powder. Mine didn't smell as good as yours though.
