Default ICORE 2017

I should have asked before, but now it's history and in the books.

Anybody else go to Frostproof the past weekend?

Normally S&W revolvers dominate. I think in past maybe 1 out of 150 competitors used Ruger. Ruger was the title sponsor this year and gave away 5+ revolvers. Several, including, I think, some of the Classic division shooter were using Ruger this year. Watch out S&W, Ruger is getting real serious about wooing competitive shooters.

I shot a 5" 686 PC (the one I converted from 7 to 6 shots) in the Classic division. I finished 14th in Classic, 4th in my Class and 96th overall. Didn't win a gun but got some Montana bullets.

Good that you were able to shoot this match. Personally I haven't been shooting ICORE long enough to make the trip but hope to shoot the IRC sometime in the future.

Next year it is going to be in NV which is also a big long trip for me so not sure but it does give me some time to get a bit better at my skills. I have heard that it will be at Ontelaunee in PA in 2019, If true I would have literally no excuse to miss that one.

Anyway, I think it would be good for Revo shooters all around if Ruger were to enter the competition field. They have a long way to go, would need a few 8 shot competition models in addition to 6 shot and a lot of S&W revos out there to displace. If Ruger does decide to make a move it would bode well for the future of revolver competition in general because a lot of people think wheel guns are headed for the grave, which of course I hope isn't true but we need new blood no question about it.

Thomas,

You're right on the locations. Will be interesting in 2019 to see the response being shot in the NE.

It's my first "big match" where I stayed all the way through and participated in everything.

Ruger was the sponsor for IRC and provided 5+ guns for the prize table. There were several shooters sporting Rugers. So yeah, they're serious about being competitive in the field. One of the VPs was pretty much on-site the entire weekend.

I shot in the East Coast Steel Challenge Championship match in September, this was my first big match. I only shot open revolver then played the part of RO for the rest of the match. Long long weekend but fun seeing many of the top shooters compete.

Next year I want to shoot 2 or 3 guns in the steel challenge. Also I want to step up my USPSA and ICORE participation. There are local ICORE matches, I'm shooting one on Sunday, but there is only so much free time.

Too early to tell but my gut tells me that there are going to be some folks irked that the IRC is going to this place in 2018. Probably will not have a big effect on match attendance though. Those at a high level in competition will go where ever it's held and shooters at my level are gong only if it is convenient.

Having thought about it some, I'm going to try to get to a few big steel challenge matches in 2018 in the southeast then wait for the IRC to come to me in 2019. There are a lot of revo shooters in the north east so it will be well attended I'm sure.

Cool, Thomas. I retire next year, so the wife and I might make a trip of it to Fallon, NV. And to PA for 2019. You're right, top competitors and groupies make the trip to where ever. I'm becoming an IRC groupie after two years now. Haven't had the chance to shoot in any of the steel matches, but with more time on my hands...

In March you have this down yonder ... US Steel Shoot Championship | USPSA Match | Covington, Georgia

I doubt I will go there this year as I think it would be beneficial for me to get in another year of steel and this match is at the beginning of the season as here in the NE winter is starting to slow things down a bit.

This year I went from being a D shooter to B in steel challenge. Even at B this is nothing to brag about, I'm barely able to stay off the absolute bottom of the charts. I have only been shooting revo for 3 years, handguns for around 4 years so I have much to learn and I'm 60 (but still working full time) so not as fast as the kids.

I have at this time 2 revolvers with a third being set up for competition right now. Once that gun is ready I will have the tackle to shoot open, limited, limited 6 and classic in ICORE, Optical sight revolver and iron sight revolver in steel challenge and revolver in USPSA. I shoot an occasional IDPA match revo also, I'm classified SS. I'm only a C shooter in ICORE open division. I spent all of my time this year on steel. I would love to say I'm good at this but I can't.

I really haven't spent any time shooting or training for that kind of shooting (ICORE) in a year but I've set some goals for next year which should help, there are many local USPSA matches here and one of my revos will be iron sight allowing me to shoot revolver class in USPSA which will help a lot in ICORE. I shot about 25 matches this year, all but 2 or 3 were static or falling steel, I need to branch out some but the year did help a lot with trigger control.

I'm shooting a local ICORE match this weekend, actually regret signing up for it as the temperature will be in the 30s. But that's it I don't have another match on the horizon until somewhere around the last week of March or the first week of April. If you get to PA in 2019 I can show you around the place.
