I decided to shoot my 617 for today's Steel Challenge Match at the Cactus Match League shooting at Ben Avery Shooting Facility.
I checked all my gear last night, loaders, charier, holster, sight battery etc. All were working well. After the first stage, my holster flipped around while I was sitting in my wheelchair. An easy fix. One of the screws that holds the holster up went on vacations, never to return. I'm sure Safariland will help me out. Fortunately I didn't drop my gun but for the rest of the match I had to bag it for each stage. This added extra work to my caregiver, pushing me around for the day.
The gun worked fine and I didn't need the Black & Decker drill that I brought in case I had to clean the cylinders. Ammo ( Federal Match HV ) worked flawlessly and I was able to run the hole match without cleaning the gun.
I have enough loaders to run three stages before I have to load them again. This worked well while going to Outer Limits. I have 15 loaders that I have either bought or were given to me by other shooters.
I don't know my total times yet but it was very good. I had a few misses but in general I was faster and more accurate with the revolver than I ever was with my automatics.
I did enjoy the group of people at the match. While I was shooting a few guys behind me were saying how hard it is to shoot a revolver...Love it when people say that. And another nice thing, an old friend showed up that I haven't seen in 15 years. He said he thought he knew me and asked my name, when I told him he just say "I remember you. You were GREAT!" Lifted my spirits a bunch. And I remembered him as well.
