Default Think Jr. is finally going to shoot a S&W

Got my son shooting USPSA and steel matches back in the early 90s when he was 12 or 13. He shot my G17 and I shot my 1911 but being a kid he got upset because he didn't see where he was ever going to win.
I was a mediocre C class shooter and knew I was never going to be Rob Leatham but enjoyed shooting enough not to worry about my name being at the top of the sheet, middle of the page was OK, I wasn't young enough to care he was.
He took a break from shooting for years then went to a Glock match with me and won a gun. Now we're off to the races.
He put every aftermarket gadget on that Glock that was ever made trying to make it "the Race Gun". Glock makes a good pistol but has some limits in race mode.
He started shooting local matches doing pretty well but of course wanted more so he spent a pile on a fancy CZ that actually did make a difference in his scores. Gun came from the factory with a less than 2 lb trigger pull.
He looked at some S&Ws but a local shop had pretty much ruined the reputation of Smiths with their work on some of his buddies guns. At least 3 guys he shot with including his father in law had their working S&W turned into might function junk by the same business.
So now Jr. is doing pretty well as a B class shooter has won a couple of matches and is looking for new mountains to climb so I suggested getting into Single Stack with a 1911 and revolver with my S&W 66 for Steel Challenge, he's going to do it. I shot a Model 14 for years at NRA Action Pistol and Steel so will be excited to see how he does.
I'd like to point out his 1st, 1st place finish was with a pink 22 I set up for the daughter in law and granddaughter to use at steel.

Good on you for keeping up,the encouragement. After more years than I care to remember with my name at the bottom of score lists and giving up in disgust, I finally upgraded my pre Witness Tanfoglio CZ clone and found myself winning medals. Competitions now consume me.

But a Glock? Sorry, I carry a Gen 1 G17 on duty and do not really like it.It shoots low and left in my hands and feels awkward.

I could tell the son was going to be better at shooting sports that I ever was but it took a few years to get him to understand it wasn't like a video game with his buddies that he might win the 1st few times out.
I started shooting NRA matches with a 6" S&W 14 in 38 but had a 4" model 13 357 round butt I shot better most of the time better trigger and I liked the smaller grips.
When IPSC / USPSA replaced NRA matches locally I went to a 1911 45acp. Stages got longer at the matches and for a double stack Glocks and mags were about the cheapest deal on the planet at the time.
I took both the 1911 and the Glock to matches looked at the stage set ups and then picked a gun. Tight shots and reactive steel / pepper poppers got the 1911 out of the bag. A bunch of big open paper was a Glock day. Yeah I shot the 1911 better than a Glock too.
My last gun I used in matches was a G24 long slide 40 on a CCF stainless race frame with a dot on it, that was a shootable Glock, but didn't have much Glock left on it other than the slide.
