Default Should I shoot Major or Minor this weekend?

Have a question for my fellow wheel gunners. I usually shoot my 929 in USPSA obviously shooting Minor. I'm curious on your thoughts about me shooting my 610 with .40's and shooting Major. Other than the 4 points for a C Zone instead of 3 points in Minor, what is the benefit?

You should go with what makes you feel good. This sort of competition should be for your benefit.

So far I shoot lots of 9mm and the few times I tried 45 single stack, it took me longer to get the muzzle back on target and I scored lower. Not worth it to me unless I run out of small primers and then practice the 45 a lot.

When USPSA changes revolver rules, I quit......used to have a great time with my 625 JM and a mess of moonclips. Loved shooting all Alpha's repeatedly.....not anymore.

The downside of 6 versus 8 is the extra reloads for the 6 shooter. It's a situation of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it don't matter.

Add to the extra reloads is most array's have a minimum of 8 rounds with a mandatory reload. So I get to fire 6, reload to complete the string, and then a mandatory reload, fire 6 coming back and then one more reload.

I should love the reloading experience.....get lots of it!!!

Once on TDY in my Air Force days I was assigned to work for a Major whom I would not have been upset over hearing he had been shot, but most minors, although occasionally annoying and disrespectful, usually don't raise my ire to the point of not defending them if someone recommended they be shot...

Oops, never mind, I think I may have misunderstood the thread title's question......Ben

There is no benefit, except its fun to rethink the stage in 6 shot arrays. I too have a 929 but switched over to my older 625 to use up large pistol primers. "Some" of our local matches have lowered the total round count, so 6 shot arrays happen more often. But...8 shot arrays with a standing reload definitely add time. A lot of the classifiers are are OK with the 6 shot gun, but if it's a 8 shot classifier, then the 929 comes out.

I'd shoot Major and enjoy myself. Compete with yourself unless another revolver shooter is there. What you will learn is how to reload. You will get a lot of practice in.

The extra points do not really hep against a good 8 shot shooter.

I'd load them so that you have an impressive fire ball coming out. Give the other guys something to talk about and gloat when you beat the bottom feeders.

This was my thought. I usually shoot IDPA with my 610 in ESR, and embrace the reloads. My Steel Challenge centerfire is my 929, and the only one I've used in USPSA. I enjoy shooting the 610 using full power .40 factory ammo, but just wasn't sure if it was really worth it for points vs. time. USPSA is the discipline I have the least amount of experience shooting. I am a hardcore wheel gunner, and it's my go to handgun. I always beat a good share of bottom feeders in IDPA!lol
