Keith, I'd love to purchase a set of your grips just like the ones in post #13.

I have a S&W 629 Classic Round butt, looking for rd.to sq. conversion.

What type of wood is that in post #13?

That's exactly what I want in exhibition grade which is what they look like to me.

Can you also use stainless hardware for the screw and escutcheon?

I sent you and e-mail also.

I've been all over the internet looking for an artist like yourself, fantastic grips.

P.S. I just read your above post on quoting a delivery date which I totally understand, If you will make my grips for me, I don't care how long it takes for you to make them and won't bother you about it either, please let me know, thanks.

This is a set of Exhibition Ropers Mr. Brown was willing to make for my model 58 conversion to 45 Colt done Hamilton Bowen. The are some of the nicest custom grips in my safe.

To those of you wondering where I might be, awaiting an email response for information, or checking on an order I offer the following. I do still make grips but now am far behind and stretched very thin, if you sent me an order I'm sure I have it and intend on completing it but can offer no timetable for doing so. Since July 5th I have been completely involved in elder care which had improved somewhat but has in the last week become even more of a challenge. This has taken a minimum of twenty five hours per week away from work and try as I might making it up is proving impossible. I have many many unanswered emails but have used the time I do have trying to make grips. I did start answering them tonight and will try to do a batch each evening and hopefully get that caught up. Thanks again for all the grip photos posted on some really nice Smiths.

Keith sent me a picture of my mesquite grips. They are for my 6" Mod.57, nickel. Mesquite is from my ranch...far as I know, the only mesquite grips Keith has done, I will post a picture of the installed grips, when the arrive.

Rusty, thanks for posting the photo. They are the first set I've done in Mesquite, the wood is heavy and hard but worked up nice.

It makes for some good tasting barbeque too.

I've got about 20 acres in Mesquite and tried several times to cut and dry some for various projects. How do you keep it from splitting? I guess mine keeps drying too fast but when it's 110 in the shade and 125 in the barn, things dry fast.

Took it to a pro in Uvalde Texas. Mine was kiln dried...no cracks/perfect !

When wood is cut the greatest loss of moisture is through the end grain. Coating the ends of the pieces with wax or paint will slow down that loss. I have done that with Cherry, Oak and Walnut.

Not on this side very often, tipped off I should visit and try and clear up a few things.

First off, my apology if I have angered or offended anyone with my lack of contact. I am sorry !

Now my explanation, and no one has to accept it, obviously, but here it is.

From the start I was overwhelmed with orders and questions, it quickly got out of hand and each step I took to improve the situation really only made things worse.

Between 2009 till 19 I received on hotmail and gmail combined nearly five thousand emails, at times I would have maybe four hundred or so waiting and I would set down and maybe answer 30-50, some of those would trigger another immediate email to me. I reached the point that I could either cut wood or type, so I cut wood.
My mistake was not simply stating this at the time. Sorry again.
My plan, when the website expires I will end that, pointless to continue as I do not have the time to update or maintain it. I will maintain the vendor section here on the forum and will soon clean that up.

Any repair work I currently have on hand will be completed but I will not be doing any of that in the future, its interesting but a huge time drain and that is time away from making grips which is what I want to be doing.

I will work through orders on hand and do actually hope to get that done before wrapping it up in 3-4 years.

And I will point out that I am a very small producer and I do not intend to change that. It is sometimes pointed out to me that there is a faster way !
I am fully aware of that having spent nearly 30 years in manufacturing, the last five running CNC equipment, literally the most boring work I could possibly imagine.

I like working with my hands, and will continue that way.

Since "Tinypic" went out of business, and my old pictures were taken down, thought I would post a new one.
These are the mesquite grips that Keith did for me a couple years ago. I have since given them a coat of Urethane clear. The pistol is a nickel model 57.
